Born on October 27, 1958, Nick grew up with a passion for football, community, and family. He was a proud alumnus of Mendel Catholic High School, where he was honored as All-Chicago Football and All-Catholic League Football in 1975—a testament to both his athletic talent and dedication. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Illinois, where his love for Illinois football took deep root and stayed with him for life.
Nick shared 31 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Helvi Sowa. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter, raising their son Luke Sowa, whom Nick cherished deeply.
Nick will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty—to his family, friends, U of I family, and Kansas State Football family, all of which he cheered for with passion. His warmth, integrity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him, or even those who simply had a conversation with him.
