Robin was born on March 12, 1950, in Queens, NY, to Marjorie and George Herbst. She graduated from Ossining High School in 1967 and then earned a degree in Sociology from Western College for Women in Oxford, OH. After college, she received training in psychotherapy at the Gestalt Center of Long Island, where she later became a teacher and mentor to other student therapists.
During her studies at the Gestalt Center of Long Island, Robin met and married Samuel “Sam” Kupietz. Together, they built a life in Larchmont, NY. Robin went on to establish a thriving private psychotherapy practice in both Larchmont and New York City. She was known and appreciated for her compassion, insight, and dedication to helping others.
Robin was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie and George Herbst. She is survived by her husband Sam after 42 loving years of marriage; her daughter, Emily McNamara and son-in-law David Ingber; her stepson, Michael Kupietz; and her stepdaughter, Hope Hightower (née Kupietz) and son-in-law Steve Hightower. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Lucy Ingber, Brody Hightower, Jamey Hightower, and Cameron Hightower; her brother, Steven Herbst; her two centenarian aunts, Gloria Lipman and Bernice Frank, whom she adored; and her former husband, Tom McNamara.
Robin will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know her — for her great sense of humor, loving heart, and spirited joy for life. May her beautiful soul find lasting peace forever.
