Stephen Vincent Stephenson, born in Frankfort, Germany on March 24, 1962, was the son of Stephen and Alba, who were both integral parts of his foundation. His father, Stephen Sr., served in the Army, and later as a Department of Defense civilian employee in military intelligence, a career that took the family overseas, and provided Stephen Jr. with a unique and enriching upbringing. Stephen’s childhood was deeply immersed in diverse cultures and experiences. Growing up on military bases, he not only adapted to an ever-changing environment but also thrived in it. Whether it was excelling in school, working part-time jobs, or playing competitive basketball, Stephen developed a strong sense of discipline, determination, and leadership that would guide him throughout his life.
After spending his early years overseas, Stephen moved to the United States to pursue his college education. He walked onto the basketball team at the Florida Institute of Technology, earning his Bachelor of Science in Air Commerce Transportation Technology with Honors, then on to also earn his Master's in Business Administration, while simultaneously proving his resilience and work ethic on and off the court. He worked his way up, earning a full scholarship and becoming captain of the team in his senior year. The lessons he learned as a student-athlete would later define his approach to both his personal and professional life.
Following graduation, Stephen ventured into the world of government contracting and telecom, traveling for various jobs that expanded his knowledge and skill set. During this time, he simultaneously was pursuing and completed his PhD at George Mason University in Information Technology. He worked diligently to multitask, furthering his education, working at Dell, and raising his children. Ultimately, he found his true calling at Dell, where he would enjoy a long, successful career. He dedicated his time and energy to his work, always striving for excellence while maintaining a deep sense of loyalty to the company and his colleagues. Dell became his professional home, and he worked there until the end of his career.
Stephen’s personal life was just as remarkable as his professional accomplishments. He married Maria Markopoulos, whom he met in Reston, Virginia in 1991. They married in 1996, and together they created a loving, nurturing home for their two daughters, Victoria and Christianna. For five years, they lived in Austin, Texas laying the foundation of patriotism for their daughters and later settling in Northern Virginia. They raised their girls with love, guidance, and care. Stephen was not only a father but a true mentor to his daughters. He was their coach, teacher, and shoulder to cry on. His passion for raising them well was unmatched, and he was always their biggest cheerleader—encouraging them in all their endeavors and supporting them with unwavering devotion and passion.
As a husband, Stephen was equally incredible. His love for Maria was evident in everything he did, and their partnership was built on mutual respect, support, and deep affection. Through highs and lows their deep foundation of love for each other always brought them peace. Stephen’s character shone brightly in every interaction—whether it was with family, friends, or colleagues. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and infectious enthusiasm made him a beacon of positivity for everyone who knew him.
Outside of work and family life, Stephen had many hobbies that brought him joy. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, enjoying peaceful moments in nature and the challenge of a good round on the golf course. He worked out regularly, keeping himself physically strong and healthy. He also enjoyed sharing meals and laughter with friends and neighbors, often hosting gatherings where he would grill everyone and share a glass of wine. Music was another passion—his tastes spanned all genres, from jazz and disco to country, soul, R&B, and classical. You could easily find him listening to music on the deck watching the sun set or by the fire pit with a drink and his buddies. No matter the setting, Stephen found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was listening to his favorite tunes or going to see an action movie with his family.
Stephen’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and kindness. He was a devoted father, husband, and friend, and his character was defined by his selflessness, his commitment to others, and his genuine desire to praise God in all of his endeavors. He leaves behind a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were lucky enough to share in his life.
Stephen Vincent Stephenson was truly one of a kind—a man whose passion for his family, his work, and the world around him will never be forgotten.
