Born in Tamm, Germany, Brigitte immigrated to Canada through Pier 21 in Halifax with her husband, Herbert in September 1962. They originally settled in Toronto, where their daughter was born a year later. They bought their first home in Malton after the arrival of their son. In 1972, the family moved to Bramalea, where they raised their children and lived the rest of their lives. They proudly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2017, shortly before Herbert passed on. Brigitte worked as a tailor for much of her life. She was a dedicated mother, whose children and grandchildren gave purpose and great joy to her life. Brigitte had many hobbies and passions, beginning with fashion – she used her endless creativity and tailoring skills to design and make all her own clothes. She also expressed her creativity in her love of baking, cooking, and home decorating. Brigitte nurtured her garden, sharing that passion with her husband and working it into a true expression of herself. She was also actively involved in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Hansa Club. After being diagnosed with lung cancer 5 years ago, Brigitte was determined to get as much as possible out of life, for as long as possible. Brigitte is survived by her daughter Dagmar, residing in Brampton, and her son Oliver (Victoria), grandsons Owen and Callum, and step-grandson Nick, residing in Oxford, Michigan.
A private service for immediate family is being held on Friday, January 27, 2022.
A public celebration of Brigitte’s life will be planned in the future when conditions are more suitable for social gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Wellspring Chinguacousy ( https://wellspring.ca/chinguacousy/get-involved/make-a-donation/ ) who have provided physical and emotional support to Brigitte throughout her cancer journey, or to Heart House Hospice ( https://hearthousehospice.com ) who have provided counselling and support services to Brigitte’s daughter, Dagmar, over this last year.
