My friend! I can’t believe it’s 2 years since you’ve gone home with the Angels! You got your wings! You can fly high above this earth with no pain and no worries. I miss you more than I thought possible. I still can’t believe you’re gone. I reach for the phone but you’re not at the other end. I listen for the comforting sound of your voice but all I hear is silence.  Luckily I can only find you in my heart and mind, in my memories and thoughts. You will remain there forever my friend, my brother! Until the glorious day when we shall meet again! Rest in perfect peace!

They say time heal all wounds but I think the devastation of loosing you is irreparable. You were a titan a loving irreplaceable soul and we can only thank God for the time He loaned you to us. Your smile lingers your name is a constant due to the impact you made in so many lives while walking on this earth. We cannot question why you left but we  miss you more than words can ever say. 
After 2 years you remained a brilliant force in our community and for that we will always be proud of you were and what you represented.

Lescene had such a kind heart. I first met him through my brother Dave.  The Lescene I met 49 years ago is very much the same person now

I regret not seeing him when I was in Canada in July of this year. We had a long chat in September as he grappled with what his Journey would look like, but with much courage and faith in a God that is more than enough.

The next time I spoke to him, was at his bedside via phone as he prepared for his eternal journey.

May we embrace his love for life, love for his family and friends so that even as he was making his transition they came from all walks of life to say goodbye.

May we learn the lessons of his Life

I am happy to be a shoulder at this time - Gary nothing can separate you from the love Cleveland “Banny” has for his family and friends. It’s one of the hardest thing to say our journey here has ended but we will meet again. He has passed the torch onto his family and friends to remember his memories. I last saw Cleveland in May of this year in Toronto. During my visit we talked about many things I remembered him sharing about his love for his daughter and also his desire to give back to his Alma Mater Calabar. Lescene was a very cheerful giver and his sojourn to the north  didn't prevent him from making regular donations. He was a great help and mentor to many youngsters particularly those from Calabar High School.

🙆‍♀️ Tony, words just cannot explain how much I am going to miss you as my Canada trips will never be the same again. You were a very important part of our lives and just simply the best friend anyone could ever ask for. I will cherish our memories forever. We love you dearly but God loves you best as heaven gained another Angel. Rest well and may light perpetual shine on you, see you on the other side My Friend 🕊🥰

Cleveland was a very caring, giving, thoughtful, generous, kind man who made it his mission to unselfishly let those that he cared about know they were loved.  
 
Knowing him for more than 20 years, I experienced that his kindness was a reflection of his heart.  His mom and I worked together for many years and I remember during this time he brought food for his mom at work but never failed to bring extra.  Or when he took food to his mom at home he stopped by with some for me.  During the height of Covid Cleveland called me to let me know he was going to the grocery store and asked if he could get me some things "as it was easier for him to stand in line than me".  Gratefully I gave him a list of the things I wanted.  When he arrived with the groceries, he refused to take any money.  "You don't owe me anything", he said.  "My mom would not be happy if I took the money".  And I want you to know, he did it more than once.  That's the kind of person Cleveland was.  
 
Cleveland, you will be forever remembered and forever loved.  May your soul rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Barbara and Gary and the rest of the family and friends. I write this with a heavy heart. Tony was a friend and brother to me. We connected on a level that few humans do. We shared a mutual love and respect for each other. A nicer human being you couldn’t find. He was loving and kind, caring and compassionate, forgiving and genuine. He was generous with his time and his wallet. He was light hearted and fun loving, always quick with a joke. The face of clam in adversity. I might have known him for a long time but as you already known his personality was bigger than life 

Within an hour of meeting this unforgettable human I knew and he knew whether you were forgettable in short order. The storytelling was captivating true and often hilarious. 

He was as casual as ever with his intelligence and could switch back and forth in and out of near queens English - I will miss him and cherish him at the same time.

When I heard the news of Mr. Lescene’s passing, it shook me on so many different levels. As a Calabar old boy, he embodied what it meant to answer to the call, and was very instrumental in my personal development. We met on a Sunday afternoon while I was in Jamaica trying to pursue tertiary education overseas. He shared how he was trying to reach out to me for months, and that same day my name magically appeared in a Calabar Old Boy group chat, and that’s how he got my contact information. Without knowing much about me, on that same day during our conversation, he donated a lump sum in support of my ventures. Thankfully, I was able to use his contribution to successfully start my studies in the United States. Many would say it was luck, or chance that we crossed paths, but Mr. Lescene believed in something much deeper than that, destiny. Almost two years ago, and I remember every detail. Mr. Lescene and I kept in contact, but I failed to ever be physically in his presence. He was extremely passionate about servitude, and what he has done for me up to this point will never be forgotten. He lived by positive virtues, and his actions no less than aptly represented the kind and loving person he was. I deeply regret that he did not have more time, but I am happy to know that during his time here with us, his hand touched many. Mr. Lescene, my mentor, my friend, a victor and a lion, may you eternally rest in peace, and may your legacy continue to reach beyond what our words may share. My deepest condolences to his friends and family, I wish you all enough.

Oh my Mr Banny/ Uncle Banny.  We write this with much pain but are consoled knowing that you are resting peacefully. Thank God for the time he allowed you to be with us and we must say you lived it well and made a huge impact on many lives ❤️. Each and all of us that crossed your path can attest to this. Cleveland/Tony was the epitome of congeniality, empathy and cordiality.  To know him is to love him. He had a BIG heart and showed an outpour of love to everyone that came around him. It’s amazing how he could make so much time for everyone and each individually. He was my counselor, confidant, family, great friend and soulmate; all intertwined in one. I say soulmate because we shared a deep, profound connection and he always made me feel whole when we conversed or were in each other’s company. Tony loved to go out and was always the life of the party with his fun-filled, energetic spirit. He always would boost my ego and push me into taking on new adventures; and of course I did the same. In the video affixed is a big example of that (doing zip line etc). While I am teary-eyed writing this, I am grateful to have shared a portion of my life with him. One that enabled great memories that I will hold on to. I will never forget him and will cherish all the memories. 
Rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord and Savior until we meet again my sweet. I love you in life and in death 🤍🕊️
