It is with heavy hearts and great sadness the Lake family announces the peaceful passing of Derek Lake at Brampton Civic Hospital on Thursday, January 18th, 2018. Beloved husband of over 60 years to Jean (née Ward). Loving father of Scott (Lisa) Lake, Michael (Deb) Lake and Lisa (James) Miller. Cherished Grandad to Brooke, Joshua, Sydney, Austin and Renee. Survived by his brother Bob Lake of London, England. Derek born in London, England proudly served the British Army, after which he travelled Europe on his Triumph Motorcycle. Returning to England he met and married Jean and the couple travelled by Ship and immigrated to Canada in 1957. Having a family, working hard, Derek's dream of having a cottage on the water started in 1968 when the couple bought a piece of land on the water in Muskoka. Derek bought a book and built a cottage, now a beautiful home on the water.
Derek spent over 30 years of retirement, spending summers on the lake in MacTier and winters in Florida. Derek will be sadly missed by many friends and family in Canada and England. Private funeral arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Derek's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
