Desuia “Betsy” Jean Macaulay was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her fight ended on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Brampton Civic Hospital after a fractured hip injury and compromised organ function at the age of 87.
Betsy was born to Vincent Barton and Inez Jacobs on August 1, 1936 in Georgetown, Guyana. She was the first one in her family to emigrate to Canada in 1960 as part of the domestic worker program. She married Wilfred James Macaulay back in Guyana on November 10, 1962.
Betsy’s grandchildren were her greatest fulfillments along with sharing some of her passions with family and friends. Sewing, cooking, entertaining, dancing, tending to her plants, laughing, traveling, trips to the casino and playing Rommy were enjoyed with family and friends from beginning to end. She leaves behind her treasured collections for others to enjoy which would give her joy.
Betsy will be honoured on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Andrews Community Funeral Centre at 12pm. Visitation on Friday, September 22nd 4-8pm and Saturday, September 23rd 11-12pm.
