Frances was born in Podlonk, Slovenia on April 2, 1937, to the late Peter and Polana Urh. She is predeceased (2014) by her husband, Gabriel Alich, with whom she will now re-unite in heaven.
Loving mother to Irene Bardakjian (Greg), Kristina Rogers (Brian), Mark Alich (Julie), cherished Grandma of James, Angela, Kira, Kassie, Xantha and Kiara, and Great-Grandma to Aubrey, Owen, Mischa, Maya, David and Ava.
Dear sister of her many siblings, who are too many to be named individually.
She will be forever loved by all her family, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Frances was the third youngest child of 19 children. She was a hard worker growing up in the mountains and farm land in the small village of Podlonk, Slovenia. She survived World War II where her family’s farm was taken by the Germans and her family (other than brothers who were active in the War) were placed in a holding camp until the Germans finished with it. Frances was adventurous and always dreamed of going to “America” as a young girl. Her dreams came true when she came to Canada in 1958 with only her husband, one suitcase and small baby. Landing in Nova Scotia and being given $20.00 from the Catholic Church, they started their life in Canada. Frances worked many jobs ultimately ending her working career at Chrysler Canada. She was always thankful and happy that she came to Canada and was able to raise her family here. She was a happy person, always smiling and offering a nice word to anyone she met.
The family invites relatives and friends to share their memories of Frances during visitation, held at the Andrews Community Funeral Centre on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 11am-1pm. Funeral service will be the same day at 12pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
The family also wishes to invite you to the reception beginning at 1 p.m. A full lunch will be served.
