

Sorrowfully, we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Gilfoy on September 24, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario, with family by his side, at the age of 88. Beloved husband to Jo-Ann (nee Petrie) for 64 wonderful years. Loving father to Kurt (Maureen), Jay-Ann (Mike), Leah (Andy) and Craig (Gema) Gilfoy. Dear grandfather to Victoria, Liam, Brianna, Alexa, Tyler, Kate and Karlee
Gerald was born on September 21, 1937, in Halifax, NS, to the late Edward and Barbara Gilfoy.
Gerald joined the RCMP at the age of 19 from Halifax, NS, left home and headed to Ottawa for training and his first few years, he left Ottawa, moved to New Brunswick and married Jo-Ann. After having all 4 children, the Gilfoys then moved to Brampton, Ontario, where he and Jo-Ann raised their family and lived their life.
He was a very committed RCMP member serving 40 years. He started his career as a Mountie on a horse on Parliament Hill and ended his career as a Staff Sergeant, working in a variety of police services in Ontario including, VIP Services, Special “O” Surveillance and Diplomatic Affairs.
After retiring from policing at 60, Gerald worked alongside his oldest son Kurt in construction for the next 15 years. He loved hockey and played until he was early into his 70’s on an “Oldtimer team”.
A devoted husband, Gerald and Jo-Ann they shared passions for gardening, collecting exotic things like tropical fish, Indigenous art, RCMP memorabilia. In retirement, they enjoyed time in Florida and summers in Nova Scotia where they cherish their cottage on the ocean.
As a Father, Gerald was dedicated to helping his children grow into capable, independent, confident adults with good careers and loving families. As a grandfather, affectionately known as Papa, he was deeply involved in the lives of all 7 grandchildren supporting them in their activities and showing them the importance of living life fully.
His legacy will live on in our hearts and memories forever, and he will be dearly missed.
The family invites relatives and friends to share their memories of Gerald during visitation, held at the Andrews Community Funeral Centre on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 10am -12pm. Funeral service will take place in the chapel of funeral home, immediately following the visitation at 12pm. Interment at Alton Cemetery, Caledon, Ontario.
