It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Lyle (74) who passed away on the morning of February 2, 2014 at Woodhall Park in Brampton, Ontario. Beloved husband to Diane (nee Rouse) for 52 years, dear father of Denise (Rocco) and Kevin (Jennifer) and cherished grandpa to Quinn, Mattia, Sienna, Taytt, Grace and Carter. Brother of Marjorie (Ralph) and Shirley. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many friends and colleagues that he has treasured over the years.
Lyle was born to Gordon and Ella Plumb in Strathroy, Ontario where he grew up with his 6 siblings on the family farm. Over the years, he shared many fond memories of his childhood. Lyle began his career working at Dow Chemical Ltd. in Sarnia. He married Diane in 1961 and settled in Sarnia. He also worked for the Sarnia Volunteer Fire Department. In 1978, Lyle was given an opportunity to work in Human Resources for Dow Flexible Packaging in Weston and he moved his family to Brampton. He was later promoted to Director of Human Resources for Merrill-Dow Pharmaceutical in Richmond Hill where he stayed until his retirement. During his time at this firm, he got his Executive MBA. He was also an executive member of the York Central Hospital and was involved heavily with fundraising for United Way. After retirement in 1994 and moving to Guelph, Ontario, Lyle kept busy with consulting for his company and teaching Human Resources at Sheridan College. He was also an executive member of the Guelph Evergreen Seniors Centre and an executive member of the University of Guelph, Third Age Learning Centre. After returning to Brampton, Lyle became active with the Probus Club and was President (2003-2004). He also maintained his passion for weekly badminton in all places he lived.
Lyle is fondly remembered for his love of the cottage which he built on Sturgeon Bay for his family. Lyle was part of the Rate Payers Association in Victoria Harbour for many years. It will be at the cottage that his family will remember his social walks, his quest for the “big fish”, his love of boats and the one time annual waterski (with hat on). Lyle’s greatest joy was his grandchildren who he loved spending time with and bragging about. He was always so proud of them.
With love, a celebration of Lyle’s life will be held at Andrew Funeral Home – 8190 Dixie Road, Brampton Ontario on Friday February 7, 2014 from 3 – 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Easter Seals.
