John was born in London just before the outbreak of the 2nd World War; to avoid the Blitz the family left London and moved out to Berkhamstead where he spent some of the happiest and most carefree years of his life.
From a very early age John was passionate about and excelled at football, an opportunity as a professional footballer presented itself but he decided upon a different path. As a young man he was fascinated with the way that one metal could cut another, which led him to an apprenticeship in Tool & Die. At this he quickly proved to be a natural talent and took great pride in producing quality work right into his mid 80’s.
As his apprenticeship years drew to an end, John’s next phase in life began with National Service, and a happy marriage, soon followed the launching of Twin Engineering and two lovely children, Stewart and Leonie. Throughout the years of parenthood and entrepreneurship, John’s life was happy and successful, and exciting holidays left everyone with many happy memories and tales to tell.
John approached fatherhood with a sense of humour and playfulness; games of Coppit or Feet Off Ground could last for days. Even situations involving undelivered newspapers hidden behind the bushes or reports of someone messing about on the school roof were dealt with a sense of humour.
His love and passion for traditional jazz and Big Band music led to innumerable friendships and experiences; whether the artists were world famous or local talent, John deeply appreciated the skill and artistry involved. Above all, Frank Sinatra remained his life-long favorite and he could regularly be found quietly listening and singing along to his records.
A new chapter began as Canada beckoned in 1981; another business venture took off this time with Stewart by his side. A chance encounter introduced John to the Coaches Soccer League. Many good friends were made and he became a fixture on the infamous Ottawa Coach Trip with a stand up comedy show lasting up to 90 minutes left those on the bus laughing in the isles and made the journey seem to fly by.
Later in life, as one chapter ended another began. With new love, John bravely helped raise a second ready-made family with Linda and moved from Brampton to Streetsville. Many happy years followed and once again the world traveler was off visiting different areas of the World. At 83 his world travels culminated in an amazing family trip in South Africa.
He loved and was loved by so many people. Some called him John, Grandad, Dad and even Johnny Boy, and so many called him a friend.
Remembering him always with love.
