Margaret Lea, born March 5, 1947 in Hamilton, Scotland, passed away peacefully and gracefully on December 21, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario. She leaves behind John, her loving husband and partner of over 33 years.
Margaret was the beloved matriarch of her blended family of four children: Lynn (Jason), Gail, Sharon (Mike), and Steve (Alyson). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Carlin (Cameron), Chelsea, Sierra, Tyler, Rayna, Shawna, and Jillian, and cherished great-grandmother to Hunter, Brady, Talon, and Cole.
Having emigrated to Canada in 1969, Margaret began her early career in hairdressing. Always impeccably dressed with her hair styled just right, she carried a natural elegance that made her unforgettable. Beneath her quiet and gentle exterior lived a lively, feisty Scottish spirit that those closest to her knew well.
A lifelong lover of sports and fitness, Margaret could often be found at the fitness centre, the curling rink, on their boat, or enjoying time with friends at the Bramalea Badminton Club or in later days at the Seniors Centre. These communities brought her joy, friendship, and a sense of belonging throughout her life.
Family gatherings at the Leas were famously lively, loud, and full of love—although sometimes a bit too lively for Margaret’s gentle nature. Though she could never bring herself to swear, she embraced her daughters’ playful “swear-code,” telling the whole clan to “four-three” when things got too rowdy. It became one of the many endearing quirks that her family will remember with fondness.
Margaret will be missed deeply by all who knew her, but most of all by her soulmate, John. They were true partners, spending nearly all their time together, and his world will feel her absence most profoundly.
Her grace, strength, humour, and love will be carried forward in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Please join us in celebrating the life of Margaret Lea on Saturday, January 3 at 1pm -3pm, at Andrews Community Funeral Centre, 8190 Dixie Road, Bramalea, Ontario. There will be lively chatter, beautiful stories, smiles and tears, and light refreshments to share.
