Many things can be said about Micah Ottavio Troy Dixon, who is better known as Troy. Notorious to friends and acquaintances as a friendly, energetic, empathic and decisive man, his compassionate nature would always shine through, revealing his charm, warmth and conscientious demeanor. He was warm-hearted, gentle and organized in all the things he sought to accomplish. Troy was a mentor, a natural “teacher” capable of seeing things clearly, leading others and bringing out the best in all of those around him. He generally had a focus on harmony and peace.
Troy was born on September 13, 1981 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. His parents, Dennis and Claudette Dixon raised their three children in Rexdale, Ontario. When Troy was young, friends and family found that “straightforward” and “honest” were perfect words to describe him. Even as a child, he demonstrated strong qualities of self-confidence, and a disposition that was enjoyable to those around him.
Troy grew up with two younger sisters, Rochelle and Brittany. He was constantly involved in all sorts of activities with his family and managed not to get involved with family conflicts. This quality served him well, in perpetually bringing harmony, understanding and a sense of peace to the family. Carrying these traits into his adult life has served as one of many reasons why family and friends found him pleasant and delightful to be around. Troy was a person who genuinely understood and cared for others, making powerful connections with those he knew.
As a young boy, Troy was imaginative, ingenious, clever and a “novel” thinker. Regardless of whether his peers were older or younger, or came from different ethnicities, it wasn't a challenge or an issue for Troy to communicate and relate to other kids. He was an active child who took part in basketball, karate, and video games. Troy was in Royal Conservative of music and in his spare time he enjoyed playing the piano and the trumpet. Troy's memorable achievements consist of winning first place in piano competition, and playing various musical instruments which include the trumpet and drums. However, to Troy, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with family and his many friends.
During his high school years, Troy had a natural flair for cheering on and applauding just about everyone. He was constantly offering his support and encouragement to fellow members of the groups and activities in which he participated. Graduating from Etobicoke School of the Arts in 2000, Troy did very well in school, enjoying learning from his favorite teacher; Mrs. Lizon. Troy enjoyed telling stories in a way that drew people to him and in this way, he had a talent for becoming the center of attention, a kind of social catalyst. Troy was often found to be the lead person facilitating a group activity, frequently filling the role of being “the life of the party.” Teachers and classmates knew him as an excellent listener. He placed a high value on learning and always understood that there was a new lesson to be grasped, just waiting for him around the corner.
Completing high school with excellence, Troy also did very well in college, as a result of his being intuitive and finely organized. He earned his diploma from Humber College in comedy writing and also pursued graduate school, earning his certificate in bar tending. His favorite courses were acting and comedy writing and his favorite educator was Professor Frank McAnuty. The skill of being a good communicator helped Troy immensely during his college days. He was comfortable with abstract information and theories and tended to thrive on the subjects that forced him to think. No matter what class it was, Troy was always very perceptive and embraced the mental challenges that his college experience provided.
Always considered a “good” friend, Troy sought to understand the things that others enjoyed. For this reason he always seemed to possess a never-ending collection of acquaintances. Troy's friends found him compatible because of his talent for being socially at ease, adept at conversation, and always amiable in his dealings with others. Troy would constantly seek to learn what his friends enjoyed, and he would go out of his way to make sure that their needs were met. Troy was always seen as the type of person who was the more gracious giver. Throughout his life he had many friends. While growing up, some of his best friends were family members: Corey Roberts, Jeremiah and Joshua Concelos. Later in life, he became friends with Ashley Sharman, Nicole Martin, Christina Chinapa and Jag Ghankas.
He experienced great success in his work life over and over again. Troy's primary occupation was an entertainer/stand-up comedian, musician, producer and model and he was also employed for seven years by Rogers Communication. Troy always made the effort to understand what was needed at work, and was well known by his colleagues as a team player. He continually sought to learn what his co-workers did well and how they were most effective, a talent that enabled him to help them develop their own potential. He took pride in managing his professional responsibilities and seemed to always know what was necessary to successfully complete a project. Troy was one to take initiative, and his skills at working cooperatively were highly valued.
Being as organized and methodical as he was, Troy took great pleasure in his various hobbies such as making music and working out. He enjoyed sharing his passions with others and could singularly focus on one hobby at a time.
Throughout his life, Troy was actively involved in professional and community organizations. With a talent for focusing in on exactly what was required to be completed, he was known to his peers as being able to strengthen any group endeavor. When called on, Troy was a natural leader who created harmony and good relationships within the group, often putting his own needs aside. His involvement could easily help structure and organize any part of a group; an added benefit was his ability to bring valued principles along with him. Throughout his later years, Troy became an active member of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, also known as ACTRA.
His faith was important to him as he was a member Rehoboth Faith Ministry. During that time, he was a trumpet player and also played the keyboard. He was compassionate and warm hearted, someone who truly cared for others and that was clearly demonstrated in his work with the congregation. Though he never did anything solely for individual recognition, Troy was given accolades for his many and varied efforts throughout his life. If the truth were known, Troy was always a little uncomfortable with being singled out for recognition. Some of his most prestigious awards include Classical Marimba League 1990-1996.
Troy enjoyed traveling, and because he was so well organized, he would take on the responsibility of planning and scheduling many of the family vacations. His gift for keeping things lively meant that vacations with Troy were always enjoyable. Some of his favorite vacation destinations include Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
Troy was a lover of animals and cherished family pets. A couple of Troy's favorites were Astro the dog and Sylvester the cat. Troy's animal best friends were Astro for two years and Sylvester for nine years. His family was rounded out by their dog Snoopy.
Unfortunately, Troy passed away on December 6, 2008 at The Grey Bruce Health Centre in Owen Sound. Troy died in a tragic car accident. He is survived by his parents Dennis and Claudette, sisters Rochelle and Brittany. Services were held at North Park Worship Centre. Troy was laid to rest in Glenview Memorial Gardens.
Throughout his life, Troy was a gregarious and enthusiastic man. He was generous in sharing his personal attributes, giving and helping those he knew and loved. He would often fill the role of coach, bringing out the best in everyone. He was imaginative, original, tender hearted and easy to get along with. He leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and cherished memories. Everyone whose lives he touched will dearly remember Micah Ottavio Troy Dixon.
