Norma was born on October 20, 1925, in Toronto, Ontario. She is predeceased (2002) by her husband, Walter, with whom she will now re-unite in heaven. Norma is the youngest daughter of the late Joseph Vincent and Kathleen Mary Bernadette Joyce (née Clifford). She is predeceased by her sisters Margaret (Margo) and Patricia (Bunny).
Loving mother to -- Brian (Janet), Grant (Danielle), Sharon (Ian). Cherished grandmother to Laura (Brian), Andrew (Natalie), Brent (Natalia), Jennifer (Rob), Ben (Maddie), Jocelyn (Kevin) and Ian (Melyssa); dear great-grandmother of Caleb, Willow, Mia and Liam. She will be forever loved by all her family, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
A proud graduate of Loretto College School, Boots worked as an operator with Bell Telephone in Toronto and in the offices of Trans-Canada Airlines (Malton) before marrying Walter in 1953. Wally’s career as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse led to many moves – including Hamilton, Montreal, Walter’s hometown of Almonte and finally to Bramalea in 1963.
Once her children were older, Boots returned to the workforce, taking on a part-time position at the local Eatons store. In time, she would resume her office career, working at O’Day Yachts, the Shop-Rite Distribution Centre in Bramalea and at the Hudson Bay Company corporate offices in Toronto from 1982 until her retirement. As a volunteer, Boots was generous with her time. She played a key volunteer role in local fundraising efforts to build a new hospital in Almonte. She was also involved with the CWL, the Ladies Auxiliary for Scouts and the Social Committee at Dayspring.
Enjoying song, her voice graced the choir at St. John Fisher Church in Bramalea and the Peel Choral Society. She was still singing some of her Broadway or Big Band era favorites in her later years and wasn’t shy about belting out a rousing version of O’Canada when the occasion arose. She enjoyed dance, horseback riding, curling and swimming in her younger years, remaining an avid swimmer into her 90’s as an active member of the Earnscliffe Aquafit group.
Boots enjoyed traveling. Early family road trips and summers in Muskoka gave way to winter vacations to the gulf coast of Florida in later years. Boots and Wally greatly enjoyed their visit to England and Scotland where they were hosted by their good friends Graeme and Kathleen Wilson. In her more senior years, she also enjoyed two family vacations in sunny Cuba.
