She was preceded in death by Gerald, her loving husband for over 65 years, her son in law Victor and her beloved dog Simon. Loving mother to Cathy (Jeff), Cindy (Victor), Russell and Maryann (Troy). Devoted Gramma to Christopher (Miranda), Dana, Nathan (Jill), Jacob (Bailey) and Lucas. Great Gramma to Brooklyn and Benjamin. She will be sadly missed by long-time family friend Carolyn.
Norma had a good and full life. Born in Kincardine Ontario, her family later moved to Toronto, where she met Gerald through her father, who used to give him a drive to work. Norma & Gerald moved to Bramalea in the early 70’s with two little girls in tow; a boy and a girl followed a few years later. For many years, their home was the favourite gathering place for the MacKenzie family Sunday dinner.
Norma had several occupations over the years; one of her favourites was the ceramic shop, where she became quite skilled at creating ceramic treasures. She also enjoyed her years working in a large factory's cafeteria, where her renowned cooking skills were enjoyed by everyone. Before she retired in 2016, she enjoyed working at one of the Sears warehouses in Brampton for just over 20 years.
Norma was an avid and very skilled crafter, most notably knitting and cross stitch. For the past 15 years, she had participated in Christmas Craft shows with her daughters and their best friend. Her work was very popular and in great demand with many shoppers' returning year after year for her beautiful cross stitch greeting cards.
At Norma’s request, there will be no service and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
From Maryann:
"If someone was to ask me what I would do if I could see my mother one more time, I wouldn't really need to think about it.
I would hold her hand for as long as she would let me.
I would tell her every little thing that I forgot to say.
Like how her cooking was always the best. How her hugs always felt like home,
And how I never stopped needing her, even when I tried to act strong.
I wouldn't ask for advice or answers.
I would just sit beside her and listen to her voice, memorize her smile and tell her that I love her over and over again until it was time to say goodbye once more."
My Mom, my Best Friend.
I will love you and miss you always, until the day we meet again.
Give Dad a big kiss and a hug from all of us when you see him again. He will love, comfort and protect you once more.
