Richard was born on February 11, 1929, in Hamburg, Germany. He survived the war and trained as a toolmaker, a profession that reflected his steady hands and precise nature. In Hamburg, he met his wife Rita, and they married in 1957, building a life rooted in love and resilience.
In 1959, Richard and Rita immigrated to Canada, where they started a new chapter and raised their three children. Richard and Rita’s life’s were always an adventure, whether through skiing, camping, boating or any other activity’s they could imagine for the family. Richard undertook the ambitious project of building a sailboat in his backyard, a testament to his and his wife’s patience and determination. There was nothing that he wouldn’t try and fix or invent as the job required. He completed his boat in 1975, the boat carried the family and friends on countless journeys through the waters of Georgian Bay, sailing became a way of life for them. Richard and Rita lived simply with care and love guiding their days.
Richard leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years, Rita; his daughter Patricia; his son Michael and his wife Catherine; his daughter Jennifer and her husband Larry; and his grandchildren Alexandra, Kaitlyn, Adam, Maximilian, and Mitchell.
Richard was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team of healthcare workers on the Wildfield Floor at Tall Pines Long Term Care where Richard spent the last 5 years of his life.
The exceptional care, support and kindness provided to Richard and Rita during his time there helped them through that part of his journey.
Richard enjoyed a variety of music, if you get a chance, please listen to "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits—it was one of his favourite songs.
