On Wednesday, April 10 Robert (Bob) Alexander passed away peacefully at the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener/Waterloo, following a severe stroke on Easter Monday. He was a youthful 83 years old. Beloved husband of Felicity for almost 50 years and cherished father of Jim (Rhonda) of London, Ontario and Helen (Mark McArdle) of Conestogo, Ontario. Bob was the loving grandfather (Papa) of Kathryn, Claire and Madeleine Alexander and Melanie and Matthew McArdle. He is survived by his brothers Charlie (Rona) of Dorset, England, and John (Vacie) of New South Wales, Australia.
Bob was born in British Guiana (now Guyana) and trained in England as a mechanical engineer, specializing in sugar machinery. In 1981 he and his family moved to Canada, and from January 1982 until his retirement in 1994 Bob worked as an insurance adjuster with the Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Bob was an Elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Brampton, and was a regular helper at the church’s Food Bank. He enjoyed his times of fellowship and exchange of jokes with members of the Men’s Probus Club of Brampton and the British Canadian Club. He kept active as a member of the Bramalea Tennis Club, the Brampton Seniors’ Badminton Club, golfing with his Probus friends and occasionally ziplining with Felicity.
Visitation will be at Andrews Community Funeral Centre (Brampton) from 6 to 9 pm on Sunday April 14. A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Brampton) at 2 pm on Monday April 15.
