Robert's brothers at Bytown Lodge No. 721 AF&AM have only recently learned of his passing.  We salute our departed Brother and wish to belatedly express our condolences to his Wife and family.
We will post a copy of his obituary on the Lodge website, so that his lodge brothers everywhere can be informed of his loss to us.

We met back in grade two, bonded over Star Wars. Since then you were my best friend and brother through the best and worst of times. It's hard to remember a time when you weren't part of my life. the Migdal's were my second family.  I still can't believe you're gone...  37 years just seems too short a time

Robert's leadership training started young as the leader of the dip s****. As we were all sitting around shrugging our shoulders saying 'what do you want to do? I don't know. What do you want to do' our captain would make a command decision and tell us where to go and what to do :)

Words can't describe how much I will miss Robert.  My only regret is not spending more time with him, especially in the last few years

he  was one of the best officer and the best co I had  he had a major influence on me  he was always there when I needed advice and to talk  he pushed  me above and beyond my limits  that have has made me in to become the leader and manger and person I have become today I rember the talks we had at the Rembrance day dinners at branch 609 the talks at the table were interesting and learned things and had laughs  we all enjoyed the dinners  the first time I went we were both at the vigil I was off my shift and he looked at me and asked me to come with him and I said yes sir and went and that was the fist time the years after I went to that. Dinner till I aged out of cadets I was the only staff cadet u had out in HMCS Quadra  summer of 2011 LT(N) Migdal. Said to me the in a bbm message befor I left  
all things can be cured by salt water or going to sea 
I was a staff cadet out of ur seniors who went sailed all summer on the orcas and u told me I am lucky and had a great opportunity to go out there and do a job u would whant to do if u were going to a summer traning Center sir and  you will be missed a lot  by his wife and family and friends and will be missed by illustrious a lot  I will never forget how much u of and impact on me and my life

Mr. Migdal was an excellent officer, he taught me many aspects of life, and helped me develop into the man I am today. I would not be where I am now if not for him.

What can I say about Robert Migdal?
I could spend days telling you about him and I still could not describe him fully. I remember the first time I met him, it was my very first time in cadets, here I was all of thirteen years old, shy, awkward, not knowing quite what I was getting into. Imagine to my surprise when a smart car pulls up and out steps one of THE tallest individuals I had ever seen in full uniform! I got to know Mr. Migdal over the next six years of my life, I remember his stories, his jokes, the many laughs we had together. I remember the long conversations on even longer road trips to various cadet events, on everything from cars, to politics, to music, to sailing, to regular Corp business, to various books we had read. I remember the May long weekend camping trips, the laughing at our trust fall attempts and the fear in our eyes when he volunteered himself! What I remember most about Mr. Migdal is how many times his advice influenced what I did in life. I think each and every cadet, both past and present can relate to that in some way, throughout his time in the cadet program he went above and beyond for his cadets. He didn't just teach, he built people, he went out of his way for me personally many times, and I have seen him do the same for many others. He had a voice that could with the same breathe bellow a command or crack a joke, and a presence that could fill a room. When they made cadet officers like him, they broke the mold. Mr. Migdal, or as we called him ‘sir,' was an officer, a scholar, a gentleman and a thinker, a man of great words, and greater deeds. He was devoted to his family, his friends, and his cadets, I am honored to have known him, and to have considered him a friend.

Robert was one of the finest officers I have had the privilege to work with and become friends with. His knowledge and passion was apparent through all his actions. If ever we needed him he was always there going above and beyond. I will miss him greatly.

Robert was always there for me; When I needed guidance he was a leader, When I needed advice he was a mentor, When I needed comfort he was a friend. Thank You, for going above and beyond and teaching me the skills and values to progress through life. I will keep everything that you taught me in mind as I aim to reach the highest goals.

Robert and I met when we were 14 at summer camp. We became long distance friends and confidantes during the tumultuous teen years. Although we drifted in and out of each other's lives in later years, I always knew Rob would be there if I needed him. I will miss him but will just have to work to keep paying forward the benefits I got from having him in my life. My prayers and thoughts go out especially to Judy, his parents, the rest of the Migdal & Standen families, Gerry and Robert's other partners-in-crime from LaSalle.

In a world where few people understand leadership by example, Robert lived it. rest easy, long-liner, in fair winds and calm seas.

Robert Migdal was to me a mentor, a leader and a friend, people as good and honest as him are few and far between. I will miss him dearly but I take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on inside each and every person he touched throughout his life.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Rob's passing. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and to all who knew and loved him. 

In the short time that I worked with Rob, I came to know him as a remarkable and dedicated individual with a refreshingly wry sense of humour, a peaceful disposition, and a kind soul. One of the things I admired most about Rob, was his consistency - he was liked by everyone, and I know he will be remembered for his patience and professionalism by those who were fortunate enough to have worked with him...

Not many among us can say they have lived by a code. Robert was one of those. We wish you strength in memory of a dedicated and valiant soul; for he left a special mark on all those whose lives he touched. 

He was the best of us.

Though his light has passed,

Lt(N) Robert Migdal represented values of a Naval Officer; honesty, knowledgeable, loyal and integrity. 

This quote sums up Robert, "Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing."

Robert walked the walk and talked the talk. Treating people with respect and always professional. 

I will remember him most for his enthusiasm of naval history/ traditions, love of Star Trek and classic cars.

He directly impacted my life while I was a cadet. Helping me through my frustrations by listening and mentoring me, to become a better leader. Always encouraging that I will do something great with my life and routinely showing his pride in his cadets.

Lt(N) Migdal's dedication, wisdom and leadership will always be remembered at ILLUSTRIOUS.

      As a parent volunteer at Illustrious, I appreciate what a true role model he was for the cadets, the parents and his fellow officers with his leadership skills and dedication to the program and especially to those kids who needed it the most. 

     I loved listening to his ambitious dream of taking the corp to England to visit the actual ship Illustrious, recognizing it would be a trip of a lifetime for many of the cadets and a challenging fundraiser. We may have not made it there, but the day he organized on the tall ship was a special memory and experience for our children as well as many other valuable activities. 

      His work with the cadets is a true legacy of how he positively influenced so many young lives. As my son said simply, he was a good man.  Our condolences to you Judi, the good woman beside him.  A job well done CO Migdal.  If any of us ever make it to see that ship in England, I'm sure your spirit will greet us on board :)

I knew Robert from birth to his departure from us. It is hard to believe he is no longer with us. 
Robert loved to embrace many goals in life whether it be professional or hobbies. He worked in many fields (and excelied) and also found time to be passionate in pastime activities. He loved to embrace people…this is where he flourished. He was there to help, aid and be a good listener. A wicked sense of humour was also there.

Judy will sorely miss her soulmate, best friend and confidant. You were his ROCK! He adored you. Two hearts beat as one can sum up your love and admiration for one another.

Henrietta and Eddy will lament a son who always wanted to please them in any way he could. Their guidance and nuturing helped him to become the great man he was. A solid foundation in life has to start from the beginning. This step was accomplished with their efforts.

Chris and Allen were his older siblings. Always there to encourage him with his ambtions. Robert used their support and delivered positive results. Blood runs deep with brotherly love.

For the rest of us, we all have many reasons to celebrate his contributions in our lives. He made us better, wiser, stronger, humble and human. Who can ask for more.

Robert was a salt of the earth...and the sea also.

He was an inspiration and a role model to most. When I first joined cadets I remember when I was scared of cadets because I was new but he made me laugh and feel at home. He'd always make everyone cheery and make people smile all the time. As one poet said "He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast." Forever In our hearts may you Rest in peace sir you will be missed dearly.

I have so many fond memories of working with Robert and Judy in North Bay.

Robert and me briefly grew up as neighboring cousins in Lasalle, which continued over the years into fun family gatherings in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and Massachussets. As kids, Robert and me also enjoyed making models together. One was an Aston Martin that we recently laughed and smiled about at a family gathering. There, Robert's love for "All things British" alllowed me, Hannah, and Peter to have a first class tour of his Jaguar. I also respected Robert for being up front and realistic for what he faced with Judy over the last few months. So, it is with a heavy heart that me, Hannah, Peter, Beeneta, and Nyah send our thoughts and prayers to the Migdal and Standen families. Robert will be missed.

It is hard to know what to say at a time like this.  I'm shocked and so very sorry to hear of Robert's passing.  My deepest sympathies.

On behalf of the Officers, Directors and all of the many members of the Toronto Sea Cadet Alumni Association along with the Officers and members of the Naval Club of Toronto wish to pass on their unwavering condolence during your time of grief. Personally I especially felt a true void on the hearing of the passing the bar. As a former member of the Illustrious Weston Corps it was always like a home coming and Robert always made you feel welcome. The Corps is going to back down a cry Tuesday but will continue on because of the leadership and manner of teaching. Robert Migdal will be missed be all of the new cadets for certain but will be remember by many of passed two corps that carried the name ILLUSTRIOUS to what it is today.

I had the pleasure of working with Robert on a number of projects, he never ceased to amaze me with his ability to see outside of the box and complete hardware and software implementations that he did not have the technical training background in. His ability to grasp all aspects of telecommunications proved to be invaluable as a reliable backup and support asset making my job easier. I enjoyed his company on and off the job, we had many good times together that I'll never forget.
