Rodolfo Palana Boquila, known affectionately as “Rudy,” passed away peacefully at the age of 84. He courageously battled stage 4 lung cancer, ultimately succumbing to complications following an emergency surgery that was unrelated to his cancer.
Rudy lived a life centered on family, touching the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and humility. A devoted husband, father, lolo (grandfather), father-in-law, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, Rudy always placed the needs of others before his own. His unconditional love and altruistic nature brought comfort to those around him, along with his unmistakable smile and gentle spirit.
Rudy was born on October 26, 1940, in Singalong, Manila. He was the son of Felisa and Toribio Boquila.
Rudy moved to Canada in 1969 and took on a role at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he worked for 35 years. He called Brampton, ON, his home for 47 years before finally settling in Mississauga, ON, with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law for the last two and a half years of his life.
A respected member of the community, Rudy was an impassioned member of the Brampton Filipino Seniors Club (BFSC) and served on the Board of Directors until his passing. He lived a life of simplicity, displaying a fervour for dancing with his forever partner “honey”, love for music, and making lasting memories with his loved ones.
Rudy leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a profound sense of family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Josefina (“Josie”); his daughter, Joseriza Marie (“Ning”) and her husband, Rodney; his son, Rodolfo Michael Jr. (“Nong”), his wife, Catherine; and his adored apo (grandson), Rumi.
He is also survived by his brothers, Jacinto, and Virgilio. Rudy was predeceased by his siblings, Victoria, Rogelio, Arturo, Solidad, and Lydia.
Though Rudy may no longer be with us in the physical sense, the impact he made on all of our lives will always remain. May he rest in eternal peace.
