Marg and Tom - My deepest condolences to you and your family. I just found out about Tom's passing and was greatly shocked at his loss for you, your family, friends and the sport diving community at large.

I first encountered Tom through scuba diving when signing up for one of his Divemaster courses. Tom was the prime instigator of that diving safety program, along with a few other key individuals. His name and his commitment  to promoting dive safety and education throughout Ontario and across Canada was legendary. Through his efforts and of those he taught, scuba diving is one of the safest of sports that it is today. 

Many fond memories of days spent on and under the lakes and rivers of Ontario, in BC and in the Bahamas will remain forever in my memory. The Yellow Submarine also comes to mind. 

My very first dive was in the Bahamas and during our buddy check, Tom asked if I had checked the CO2 cartridge in my flotation device. I answered, "Yes, I tried it at home and it worked OK so I packed it up and here I am!" He was stunned for a moment and then asked in a casual but perplexed manner if I was trying to fail him as an instructor. He explained these were one time use only (something missed during my own scuba instruction) and replaced the cartridge. A wonderful first dive experience followed.

My second dive was with another instructor and during that dive we were caught up in the Gulf Stream current and rapidly leaving the boat far behind. I panicked and inflated my bouyancy vest until we were picked up.

Once back on the boat and getting out of my gear, Tom sidled up beside me and said, "Now wasn't it good that it worked that time, first time!"

A great lesson learned from a great Master Diving Instructor who contributed so much to the sport with the primary goal of always having fun but always being safe.

Thanks, Tom for the countless wonderful memories including the Dum Dum Award which we both earned and wore with pride.

We send our deepest condolences for the passing of Uncle Tom. We are all grateful to have had the opportunity to spend time together last summer, and I have fond memories of coming out to wake you both in your yellow van on those occasions when you stayed with us at the cottage. 
It is comforting to know that Tom has only preceeded us in the next step of our mortal journey and that we will be together again one day.

I think every highschool kid in Brampton/Bramalea during the 80's heard of Tom if not knew of him through ADD & TeenADD as well as OSAID conferences.  
He was a wonderful man with a strong message that so many of us lived by.  
He will always be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes & warm smile.

We have not known Tom for long but were very happy to be welcomed in the Tumilty home as second cousins who met Tom and Marg through our interest in genealogy and our common ancestors. Tom was kind, generous and welcoming. We will miss him.

Tom always had a warm heart, a listening ear, words of wisdom and a great big hug whenever you needed him.  So sad to hear of this great loss.  Sending prayers to the Tumilty Family.

Bill & I are so very sad that such a dear man has left us.  Having had the pleasure of knowing Tom over the years is certainly a blessing.  He always brought a smile to our faces! Tom was very passionate about genealogy; he posted on his website a letter sent in 1914 to his grandfather from my great grandfather Bernard Tumilty. Bernard was on the Empress of Ireland which sank in The St Lawrence a few hours after he posted it. Tom hoped that one day someone would read the letter and link to it, this I did in 1998 and we have been great friends since.
Tom always laughed and joked that he had his "bucket list" well we're all so pleased he managed last summer to fulfil the top goal which was to come to the UK with Maggie to visit all his family in Liverpool and see his roots in Brighton Road, off College Road, Crosby.
Such a lovely family man; will be very much missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Canada.

Tom, or Mr. T (Tumilty) as was foundly known to myself and many of his daughter Leanne's friends, was a very amazing person.  I have known him since I was born and he was an amazing friend and neighbour in Bramalea.   I have many fond memories of him taking us scubing diving in Tobemorry, or in the hot summer to Baskin and Robbins in his yellow submarine van.     I will miss him dearly.  My deepest condolences to his family, son Tom, and amazing wife Marg.   They have both been there for my parents and family for many years.    My thoughts are with you.
