Al was extremely independent and motivated at an early age. He helped drivers deliver milk, and then bread beginning age 8 for pay. He would say he was never a child. He had a magnetic personality which helped him sell seeds door to door to gain prizes for most sold. As a teen he entered into the Optimist Club and began public speaking on tour, winning trophies for his speeches. He met his Future wife Jean while he was 16 and she 15 around this time. He continued to work hard at service stations, and then sold Electrolux vacuums door to door until drafted in 1956 during the cold war. He would hitch hike from Ft. Bragg in NC to NJ just to see Jean while on leave. He Married his Love Jean on April 19, 1958 at which time he took a job as a union welder at Hercules Filter. In the early 60’s, Hercules’ parent company, Alfa Laval, came to ask for volunteers to work in their service department. Al never passed an opportunity and with raised hand began his permanent career in high speed Centrifuges.
He worked as a traveling repair man for 7 years as his family grew to three. Al’s personalty and devotion to the job and customers earned him high recommendations. These recommendations came in hand written letters from the customers to Al’s superiors. As a result Al was offered a sales position and a transfer to Florida in 1968. Utilizing his time management, writing and organizational skills, Al dove into the sales force, forging strong relationships, realizing new process opportunities and breaking sales records along the way. This continued until 1980 when, in a leap of faith assured by his abilities, and the abilities of his wife Jean, resigned from his position at Alfa Laval. He and Jean incorporated and beginning in 1981 Separation Equipment Co was born as a distributor for Alfa Laval.
The fledgling company consisted of three, Al, Jean and oldest son Al starting in the family garage. The company has grown through the years and now supports sons Floyd, daughter Wendy, daughter in law Becky, grandson Al IV, as well as Floyds son in Law Jordan. A few of Al’s many crowning achievements were the largest sale of Centrifuges on record to Anheuser Busch, revolutionizing the brewing process there, also equipment for the manufacture of other beers within the brand. He applied Centrifuges to the by-products area of the Paper industry, increasing production. He also brought and applied his knowledge to the Menhaden fishing industry, streamlining operations. He authored papers in these industries and others.
He was proud to say his company never had a year in the red.
On a personal level Al’s greatest pleasures were working with family, weight lifting, traveling with Jean, spending time in Vermont, collecting antiques, motorcycle riding. He loved his children, his grand children and great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s baseball games. He loved deeply and lived a full and storied life.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Goble; children, Wendy Cleek, Al (Becky) Goble, and Floyd (Tisha) Goble; grandchildren, Tyler, Albert IV, Caitlyn, William, Zack, Raegan, Keaton; and great-grandchildren, Scotland, Shiloh, Charlotte, and Scout.
There will be a private family only memorial and viewing Sunday, February 28, 2021 followed by a reception for family and friends beginning at 5PM at the Brandon Junior Women's Clubhouse, 129 N Moon Ave, Brandon.
