

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Sheppard, his son David Sheppard, and his grandson Chase Sheppard. Survived by his children: Lynn Sheppard, Debra (Rex) Cole, Cynthia (Daniel) Lawrence, James Wallace Jr. (Tracy) Sheppard, Keith (Cheryl) Sheppard, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wallace was born on May 16, 1934 in Tampa, Florida to Sidney Glenn and Dorothy Lovie Sheppard (nee Knight).
He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1952 and married his high school sweetheart, Donna Odor. Over the next twenty-two years the couple welcomed 5 children into their home. They later divorced and he married Mary Eccles and adopted her son, David.
He was there to support his children in whatever path they chose in life and always encouraged his children to work hard and pursue their goals.
He had a love and talent for woodworking and building homes. He earned his contractor’s license and building houses and offices became his second job. His interests ranged from farming, gardening and growing orchids to buying and selling real estate. He owned cattle and horses. which he kept on his 20 acre farm. He had a keen interest in politics and supported candidates he favored,
and he occasionally acted as a lobbyist in Washington for Continental Can Company. Wally loved life and loved people. He never met a stranger and would entertain anyone willing to listen with his stories of Florida’s past. His funeral is scheduled for 10:30 May 16, 2026 at Hillsboro Memorial Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Glory Days in Brandon. Pastor Fred Gray will officiate
