With profound sadness and eternal hope in our hearts, we announce the passing of our family Patriarch and beloved Abuelo, Jorge Humberto Barrera, who entered into the presence of the Lord on September 25, 2025 at the age of 78 peacefully surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children and devoted Wife of 40 years, Julieta Barrera. He is survived by his second wife, Ana Barrera; his daughter, Claudia Ochoa; daughter, Susan Ojeda & son-in-law, Reinaldo Ojeda (whom he cherished as a son); & daughter, Julie Pollock & son-in-law, Byron Pollock; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jovanni, Maya, Caleb, Isabel, Charlotte, Daniel & Nehemiah; and great-granddaughter, Aya; his sisters, Lilian Pinto and Angelica Barrera; his nieces & nephews; and step-daughters, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandson.
Jorge was born in Chiquimula, Guatemala to a single mother of three, Marta Barrera, who worked out-of-town often to sustain their humble household. Jorge was raised by his grandmother, Santos Barrera, whom he often lovingly remembered. As the only male in the home, he started working at age eight in a mechanic shop. He thereafter had multiple jobs until he relocated to the United States with his wife and children. Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly, always 2-3 jobs, to provide for his family, never neglecting to spend quality time with his daughters. His most treasured role was that of "Abuelo" a title he wore with immense pride, sharing his faith through songs and prayers. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, nothing brought him more joy than bringing smiles to their faces and giving them endless love. Jorge was a man profoundly in love with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jorge lived a life of gratitude enjoying the simple things in life, like watching a soccer game or enjoying a sunset on his hammock. He shared the love of Jesus Christ with everyone he met, leaving a legacy of kindness and generosity. Whether he was in his beloved Guatemala or traveling elsewhere or in a hospital bed, he always had a smile to share or a joke to tell. Jorge was a charitable man who had various ministries of donating bibles, food, gospel tracks or helping with humanity projects. Everywhere he went, he loved and was loved. He showed us all how to walk with Christ through every season of life and leaves behind cherished memories of laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love. His values, humor and kindness will continue to shape our lives and offer guidance through the years.
Today we find comfort in the words of Psalm 116:15: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants" and find peace in knowing that he has "fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). We look forward to the day we are reunited in heaven.
