Kenneth “Ken” George Schintzius, 80, a longtime resident of Brandon, Florida passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2023. Ken was born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Ohio until he joined the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, he joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in 1969 as a detention deputy, and shortly after he transferred to the patrol division in 1971. Throughout his 46 active years of service he was promoted to Sergeant, a position he held until he retired. Ken was very dedicated to his work. He spent his time volunteering at the HCSO History Museum and was the President of the HCSO Alumni Association ever since the association was established in 2005. When people would ask how he does it, he without fail would respond with, “If you love your job, you never work a day in your life.” Even after retiring, he never stopped his mission to protect and serve.
Ken was known to give amazing advice, lend a helping hand, and never failed to make a room full of people laugh. He has positively affected so many lives and has left an everlasting legacy. He emphasized the importance of never judging a book by its cover, always putting your best foot forward, and treating people the way you want to be treated.
In 1965, Ken met Linda, and they married in 1966, going on to have two children, Dwayne and Travis. They celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together in May 2023. Ken was predeceased by his son Dwayne and survived by his beloved wife, Linda, youngest son, Travis, daughter-in-law, Stephanie, his three grandchildren: Chelsea, Travis Jr., and Audrey, along with his two great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Colton.
Ken was a proud American, veteran, deputy, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, and friend. While words could never amount to how beautiful his soul was, he granted us countless stories to share in his honor. He was truly a blessing to us all and he will be sorely missed.
