To the Smith Family, My deepest condolences to you during this very difficulty time. I am just seeing this now, hence the late entry. I feel so lucky to have spent so many times with such an amazingly strong person. He was one of the most honest, loyal and selfless people I have ever met. He spoke very highly of his family and made an impact on everyone he had the chance to meet. The memories I have of LeDarrin will remain in my heart forever.

You never know what a person is made of until they are faced with adversity. LeDarrin met his adversity with an amazing show of strength, humility and love. Visiting him in the hospital was to provide support but instead we left inspired by his positive attitude and willingness to share his experiences to help others around him. We wish we were able to get to know him better but in the time that we were aware of his illness and how he handled it, we definitely know that he was an incredible person and a great man and will be truly missed. May God bless him and his entire family as they deal with their incredible loss.

I would like to keep the Smith family in my thoughts and prayers. I met LD my first year at UWF and he was soft spoken, kind, and giving; he didn't worry much and he just seemed to live life to the fullest he will be missed and those memories of Freshman year will be cherished. He was definitely a bright spirit and heaven has gained an angel he will be truly missed.

LeDarrin was not a person I knew well, but he is a person I'll always remember.  I met him at Tampa General Hospital, near the end of his time on earth.  Despite all that he had to endure, anyone in his presence could feel his desire to help and encorage others, and I was so touched by that.  May he and his family find peace in this time.

I tracked LD's progress...his challenges and good days through his father...hearing of his death hurts...as I have so much respect and admiration for Darryl and Alethea. I was so fortunate to know LeDarrin even though is was for a short time. He touched my life and so many others in a caring, positive, brave way. His amazing strength helped me get through rough days. He never complained about his pain or even what his future held. There were so many days that LeDarrin would come to work and be feeling so sick, yet he would not give up. It amazed me that he had the fortitude to take a picture of himself on his cell phone after his surgery, and sent it to the therapists so we can see how well he did. He managed to visit us 3 days after the surgery. I think LeDarrin did this to help US cope with his illness,.I believe that he knew his co-workers would rest easier once we saw how amazingly well he came through that surgery. LD I new you from AHS. I remembered at one track meet when my sis had fallen you carried her across the field to the other side, thats when I knew you had a caring spirit. I always was thinking about you when I heard about your condition.  I know you're in a wonderful place now free from any pain, any worries, and all your doing is rejoicing in heaven. LD I remember the heart you showed during basketball practice.You would always give me a hard time with that in your face defense, making it known nobody could stop you!The best quality you had was such a huge heart, never rude, just a laid back friend! I will always have you close in memories, close at heart, we will see again!

I knew LD from my time in Aviano... His passing will forever leave a hole among the ranks of the Aviano Family. He will  live on ever after in our memories and hearts...

I first met LeDarrin at Eglin AFB in elementary and we became instant friends. That boy could run and we would always have races back then. Well after 2 years we reunited in Aviano Italy. There we continued to stay friends and surround ourselves with a great group of people in which we all know as the Aviano Family. LeDarrin will forever be a part of our family and my heart goes out to his family. He will be missed, always loved and never forgotten!

I remember having a great time with him and fellow classmates on ROTC trips and Track Meets.  Ledarrin was always cool with everyone he would meet and always had a positive attitude in any given situation.  At school Ledarrin always had a smile on his face and was just a comfort to be around.  He was definately a good friend to me and was such a nice guy. He had the most beautiful spirit and could brighten up anyones day. These are memories I will always cherish about him.  It hurts that he is gone, but I know he is in a better place and he is with God.  It is a blessing to have known him. Miss you and love you bro.

LD, Im wearing the necklace you got me for my birthday 14years ago. Last night after hearing of your passing, I went into my jewelry box and pulled it out, but it was tangled up with another necklace that had a gold cross on it. I think its gods way of saying you're being taken care of, you're free to rest. You'll be missed greatly by us all. We were known as the Aviano Saints in italy... the heavens recieved a great one. I knew LD in high school. LD was a good friend and an inspirational person. Didn't matter who you were, he'd put his hand out with his heart on his sleeve to pick you up and just be there for you. I remember LD at Aviano American High School and he was the most generous person I've ever known. My condolences to both his parents, Darryl and Alethea as well as the rest of his family. He was a caring person, and he always had your back on any situation. We always argued how he thought Lil Wayne was the best rapper in the game, and I thought Jay-z was the best rapper in the game. LOL. You'll be truly missed man, both of us were grinding through college, proffesional lives, and also trying to get into the physical therapy assistant program. LD was always humble, positive, caring, and always found a way to resolve conflicts either on the basketball court or in life. He was the very definition of self-less and always put the needs of others above his own, no matter what the situation called for. He was always finding ways to brighten the days of others, usually with his infectous smile and laugh. I had the pleasure of getting to know LD for 4 years of my life, and he was the definition of what a friend should be. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult and trying time.

In the short time I was able to get to know LD it was apparent that he was wise beyond his years and such a beautiful soul, positive, and non judging of another. I could tell he did not want to burden anyone with all that he had to endure, which would not have been a burden at all. To his parents...you raised a boy into a man that anyone would be proud to call a friend..he spoke fondly of his family and that is a blessing on its own to have that kind of love and respect. I am so very sorry for your loss, much love to you all and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

LD came into my life a few years ago. We had an instant bond and connection,one I will never forget. He was always so positive and upbeat,even when life got rough. He was always laughing or smiling at an inside joke or comment we had,no matter how old. He truly was my sunshine at times. I will be forever grateful to have known such a wonderful person. LD was the most positive person I have ever met.  He never complained about a single thing and always had a smile on his face. I will never forget him.
