Margaret Frances Jackson Cutts passed away peacefully on April 28, 2022, at 97 years old in Brandon, FL. One of her daughters, a son, and two grandsons were by her side as she left her earthly body. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Warren G. Cutts, Jr., who died in 2008. She was born in Powder Springs, GA on June 14, 1924, she graduated from Marietta High School in Marietta, GA, and Tift College in Forsyth, GA in 1945. Margaret had a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and many would agree a “Doctorate in Southern Hospitality”, welcoming people from all over the world into her home. She never met a stranger and delighted in sharing stories. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, love of people, and sweet smile; among many other positive things, Margaret contributed to the people in her life.
Margaret met her husband, who went by Pete, on January 1, 1944, outside a grocery store on a blind date set up by her mother and Pete’s father, who was the Pastor of their family church. Pete told her she was about the cutest girl he had ever seen. They were married by Pete’s father, Warren G. Cutts, Sr, on July 29, 1945, and had six children over the course of their lives together.
Margaret was a math and science teacher after staying home with her children for many years. Pete and Margaret lived in Boca Raton, FL for nearly 30 years prior to moving to Seffner, FL in 1989.
Margaret’s faith was the center of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brandon. Not only did she regularly attend, but every week she prepared a lesson for her adult Sunday School class, where she taught a class of senior adult women well into her late 80’s. When Margaret could no longer drive, she continued to minister to the women in her class through weekly phone calls and fellowship in her home. She enjoyed working with youth groups for many years while her children were growing up. When she moved to Brandon, FL, she began helping with 5th and 6th grade Girls in Action and did that for 11 years. Margaret was a spiritual mother to many all through her life. Margaret financially supported missionary families in the Ivory Coast and Kenya, and a Christian family in the Philippines. The staff at Parkview Estates told the family that Margaret would pray with them, and they loved being in her positive presence. Margaret ministered and loved people up until her passing.
Margaret enjoyed spending time at her cabin in the North Georgia Mountains and especially loved seeing the changing leaves in the fall. Margaret loved being outdoors and cared very much for our environment. She financially supported the Appalachian Trail as well as many other organizations: Audubon and Sierra Club, to name a few. In many ways, she is the first environmentalist her children remember. She often planned bird watching hikes for her children and others into the Everglades. In Seffner, she lived on a lake and enjoyed watching resident anhinga, redwing blackbirds, sandhill cranes, whistling ducks and alligators. She was very enthusiastic to share her joy of birds and would call excitedly for all to come see what she had spotted. When her children were younger, she always made sure they had a bag to clean up after picnics, and even cleaned up long stretches of beaches as a family when they would go swimming in Boca Raton, FL. Margaret instilled a sense of stewardship in the land to her children before it became a “popular” thing to do. This sense of stewardship has been passed on to future generations as part of her legacy. Her youngest grandson is making it his goal to hike through the Appalachian Trail and is currently on the trail. She would be so proud. She was very involved in scouting and has one son and five grandsons who are Eagle Scouts.
Margaret always had a story or a memory to share and her home was always filled with family, friends, and laughter. She always seemed happiest when all her children and grandchildren would come together. Her eyes lit up when she talked about her family. She was a superb cook. Everyone loved to come to her home and enjoy her delicious home cooked meals. Margaret felt blessed by her family and her grandchildren were her crown of glory here on earth. She once confided that “we all have independent spirits and have developed in different ways in different areas, but we all have strong family values.”
Many thanks to the amazing staff at Parkview Estates in Brandon, FL. The love and care they provided is so appreciated by her family. She never lost her sense of humor. The staff loved cutting up and laughing with Margaret. She was called “The Comedian” at Parkview.
Margaret is survived by her six children, Tom, Amy, Cindy, Jeff, Bill, and Bea; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She will be missed and never forgotten by her family and friends
