went home to be with the Lord November 28, 2017. Ola was born September 29, 1918. She was the
fifth child born to William W. and Mamie Gainey Capps in Balm, FL. Ola is predeceased by one sister
and four brothers, Ether Davis, Henry Capps, Garland Capps, Willard Capps, and James Lester Capps. She leaves one surviving sister, Marie Reed of Yorba Linda, CA.
Ola graduated from Wimauma High School in June of 1938. Immediately after graduation, she took a job at S. H. Kress Company in downtown Tampa in the millinery department. As a young woman, Ola enjoyed playing the piano and guitar. On April 27, 1940, Ola married T. Seth Alderman, to whom
she remained married until his passing in 1989. Soon after their marriage, they returned to Ft. Lonesome, FL, the area where Seth grew up, and settled on Grange Hall Loop. Starting with row crops, they built a family farm, eventually expanding their business to raising cattle and citrus in Southeastern
Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. Early on, Ola was at Seth’s side each day, riding her horse, Molly, to help work the cows, picking the crops, and selling the crops at the market in Plant City. Ola also took pride in keeping the finances for the family business, often working late in the night to balance the books.
Most important to her, Ola was a consummate mother and homemaker. She was an expert seamstress, kept an immaculate home, and loved to cook. Ola not only would cook for her family, but would also cook for large groups of cattlemen and friends who were working on the ranch or visiting. Ola loved
serving others. Ola was also a member of First Baptist Church of Tampa for over 60 years, where she was active in Sunday School and women’s groups. Ola is further survived by her children, Donna A. Beard (John) and Nelson T. Alderman of Tampa, FL and Sara A. Tyner of Antioch, FL. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Richard T. Petitt, Anthony B. Petitt, Jacob L. Tyner, and Lindsay L. Tyner; and leaves eight great-grandchildren, Seth, Hannah, Tyler, Kara, Katherine, William, Grant, and Andrew Petitt.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 2, at 2 pm at Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon, Florida with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at Fellowship Cemetery immediately following the service.
