was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived there for many years before
moving full-time to Tampa, FL. He served as a Sargent in the US Army
during World War II working as a medical tech and with the military
police. Dr. Scott earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in
Secondary Education from Temple University, and his Doctorate of
Education from Nova University. The “Chief” as he was respectfully
called, dedicated his life to improving the lives of others as a public
school principal, working many years in the inner city high school and
community of West Philadelphia. He loved basketball and attended as
many of West Phila’s games as he could. He was a summer camp
counselor. He was a member of the Masonic Concordia Lodge No. 67
out of Jenkintown, PA.
Walter loved to “surf” fish by standing in the waist-deep breakers
along the Jersey coast. That was his passion. There were many family
summer vacations spent together in Ocean City at the shore and road
trips across the country to see most of the states and up into remote
areas of Canada. He also enjoyed a day on the golf course. Walter
took his roles as husband, father, son-in-law and grandfather to heart
and was a fine example of love, protection and positivity expressed in
each of these. He took loving care of the family dogs, Snooki and
Apollo. He had a curiosity about people, places and life in general and
liked to be out in the world living it.
Walter’s loving wife of 73 years, Dorothy Y Scott, passed away just 2
months ago. His parents, Marie and Walter Scott predeceased him.
He is survived by his adoring daughters Deborah Wyko of Tampa and
Janet Scott of Golden, along with his granddaughter Karrie Musa of
Delray Beach, grandsons Kevin Wyko of Wesley Chapel, and Kenneth
Wyko of Tampa, and great-grandchildren Marc Anthony, Annabelle
and Stella Musa of Delray Beach.
A family memorial service will be privately held at a future date.
