I just wanted to write a few sentences in my own words that I remember about Felicia -

When I first met Felicia, the thing I remember most was how warm she was -  how welcoming, how affectionate, and how loving.  I could not help but feel drawn to her, and feel comforted in her presence.  It was not long before I was calling her "Mamma".
It was a while before I even realized how little English she spoke, as we somehow managed to communicate on another level beyond the literal word.  She would tell me things, and I would understand, even through the language barrier.
She was very proud of her family, and fiercely loyal and protective of them all, a quality I see so clearly reflected in all of her beautiful daughters to this day.  No wonder she was so proud.
Felicia knew right from wrong; she knew good from bad, and she was a paragon of conscience to all.  Her own good character was an affirmation of the good in each of us, as well as a benchmark for where we aspired to be.
Many people knew and loved Felicia.  She gave her love generously, but when necessary, she lovingly admonished those who had gone astray of the path of a virtuous life.  When she spoke, she spoke the truth and people had faith in her convictions - everyone respected her.  
I wore her diamond necklace on my wedding day, and I believed that her spirit did then, as it continues to now, bless me and bring me luck as I continue on in life.

As they say, they 'broke the mold' when they made her - there will never be another Felicia.  And my life, just one of many, is so much richer for having known and loved her.
My sympathies to you and your family on your loss of this selfless and sensible woman.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of your dear mother. She was a very special woman and I have fond memories of her gentle nature. We were out of town and did not receive the news until Wednesday. EULOGY FOR OUR DEAR MAMA AND NONNA - FELICIA TEDESCHI
WHO PASSED AWAY SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 2013

Tutti attenzione per favore, Attention everyone please!

For those who don't know who I am, I am Rick Mannen, son-in-law of Felicia and husband of Josie. First of all on behalf of the family, I would like to thank you all for coming to the visitation yesterday, the mass today and this reception. Vi ringrazio sinceramente per il vostro sostegno. Your amazing support is helping us getting through this very difficult time. We are overwhelmed by the number of people that have come out to support us. It is a true testament to the impact that my father-in-law and mother-in-law has had on our family and the friends of our family. 

When I think about my mother-in-law Felicia, a number of words come to my mind;
- FAMILY, LA FAMIGLIA, my mother-in-law always said Gesu, Gesu, Gesu e la famiglia, la famiglia, la famiglia e la piu importante, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus and the family is THE most important. Mama's love for her daughters was genuine. She was blessed with 12 grand-children and 8 great grand-children.  She was so proud of them, they filled her heart with joy and happiness.  
- HAPPY (felice), I never saw my mother-in-law so happy then when her daughters, son-in-laws or their children came to see her.  Her eyes always lit up with tears of joy.  
- SAD (triste), Mamma endured much sadness with the loss of two young son-in-laws, Joe and Ami within a very short time frame that left two daughters without husbands and four very young grand-children without their fathers.  But she never lost her faith in God.  
- SHARING (compartecipazione) , whenever someone came to visit Mamma, she made sure they never left empty-handed.  She would give them food, money, cookies for the pet dogs, or a special memento and would never accept no, as an answer.
- FAITH (fede) , every day my mother-in-law would say Padre, figlio, spirit santo, Grazie per un altro giorno Gesu. Father, son and holy spirit, thank you for another day Jesus. Hours before Felicia passed away, she was blessing the doctors and nurses for taking care of her, and we knew that she was at peace.
- MATRIARCH (matrona) , Mamma was the matriarch of our special family and wholly devoted her life to us.  Her love, guidance and support to her family were always immeasurable and she instilled a strong sense of values and respect in all of them. If you know Mary, Stella, Eva and Josie and all of their children and all of their children, they are all the most kindest and compassionate people ever. They say the apple never falls far from the tree (la mela non cade mai lontano dall'albero)  and this is true with Mama and the daughters. Mama was the tree and they are the apples. My mother-in-law  has left an amazing legacy.

In December, she spent her last Christmas with her entire family at the home of her daughter - Josie and son-in-law - Rick and insisted that she prepare the lasagna and pizzella for all 30 family members.  As all the families were growing, it was becoming increasingly challenging to get them all together at the same time. This year was an exception and everyone attended and shared laughter, fun, food, drink, stories, photographs and most of all the love of Mama and the family.

Her passing was not expected. Mama never spent a day in the hospital and rarely ever got sick. This happened quickly but after the initial heart attack, she was not in any pain, was in great spirits and was raving about her famiglia and just wanted to go home to her own bed. When she did pass, she was not in any pain, was at peace and we were all together by her bedside, just as she always wanted. What a special women she was and what a special family they are. 

40 years ago, I was just a kid of 15 years old when I met Josie also 15 and her Mom welcomed me into the family as her own son well before her Dad even knew about us. In fact, she referred and treated all her son-in-laws, Leo, myself, Mario and Bob as her own sons. I have been truly blessed every day since to be a part of the family. We will miss her so much but we have so many beautiful memories and her legacy is her beautiful daughters, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren whom she engrained her faith, love and compassion in and whom will follow in her footsteps.

Mama, you have completed your work on earth, now rest in peace and enjoy your time in heaven. We will miss you and love you. (Ci mancherai e ti amo).

No words can express how sorry I am for your loss.  However I am also filled with joy when I remember the love laughter and life that filled your parents home, and now fills each of yours.

My deepest sympathies to everyone in the family. I'll always remember Zia Felicia as a kind, caring and wonderful woman. May our memories of her live on.

My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Tedeschi family with the passing of your cherished matriarch Felicia. Though I only met Nonna once or twice, I will never forget the pleasant smile of such a beautiful person filled with so much love and kindness. It's the same smile her loving granddaughter Sue has whenever she tells me of the special times they spent together. Your photos are a touching tribute to the family tradition of togetherness that Nonna continued on with such grace. May the love Nonna shared with you strengthen joyful memories of her and guide your wonderful family through this difficult time.

I was sorry to hear about your moms passing. Even when we know its inevitable it is never easy to part with those we love. Your mom seems like the perfect mother. Loving and passionate about those things that mattered most to her. I know that you will have wonderful memories of happy family times together. It is these memories that will hold and sustain you in the difficult days ahead. I am sorry I can't be with you at this time. Just know that you are in my heart and in my prayers.

My heart is so sad.  Today we lost a very special lady. Every time I begin to cry, however, I am overcome with memories that make me smile.  What a wonderful life filled with family, laughter, music, food and love.  Lots and lots of love.

I can't help but think back almost 30 years to my first introduction to this crazy Italian family.  I was in awe of how close they were and how much fun they had together.  Family get togethers were often and always included eating sangwiches or pizza or pasta and drinking wine.  If it was an evening get together at Zia Josie and Uncle Rick's, there was always music, singing, dancing and laughing. Everyone was happy to be there and looked forward to next time when they would be together again.

After nonno Joe passed away, I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with nonna at her house.  Each visit began with something to eat of course.  After dinner we would sit and chat on the porch or watch TV.  I never left empty handed.  Nonna always sent me out the door with some trinket from her house.  On one occasion, I commented on the mirror she had hanging on the wall near her living room. She said “you take it”.  I insisted that it should stay right where it was but there comes a point when you didn't want to offend her and so she took the mirror of her wall and gave it to me.  It hung on the wall at my mother's house for years and it now hangs in our bedroom.  The tradition of giving things to people continued when she went to live with Mary and Mario.  Every visit included a visit to her bedroom to see the pictures of her family that she loved so much.  Again, I always left with something.  Usually chocolate but more often than not it was a 20 dollar bill that she would slip into my hand saying “zite, zite”.  Sue and I went to visit her a few years ago with Neave, and Nonna gave me a beautiful necklace with a pendant on it that said “mom” that surely Mary, Stella, Eva or Josie had given her.  Again, I tried to resist but she said “you take because you a mom”.  On my last visit with nonna, it was my daughter who left with a treasure.  A lovely cherub that I know she had for years.  It now sits proudly on display in Neave's bedroom.

Nonna is leaving an incredible legacy. Mary, Stella, Eva and Josie have the same loving, kind personality that made nonna so wonderful.  Each one of them will offer you food, slip money into your hand, sit and visit with you and welcome you into their homes.  Nonna taught them to work hard, enjoy life, be kind to others and always put family first.  I know that Mario, Bob, Leo, and Rick, her sons in law valued these traits and have learned from nonna too.   Mario, Frank, Joe, Sue , Paul and Johhny her grandchildren have also learned these lessons and will continue to pass them onto their families. 

I know that Nonno and Nonna moved to Canada to create a better life for their children.  They worked hard and built a wonderful life.  I wonder if they had any idea what would come from that move?  A large family that would grow to be successful and happy.  Did they know that they were setting the greatest example of love that stretched beyond the confines of their immediate family to a mangiacake like me?  I will be forever grateful for the love that has been shown to me from the Tedeschi family. I am a better person because of them.  

I know that right now, Nonna and Nonno are holding each other in heaven.  I think Ami and Joe her sons in law were next in line waiting for a hug, followed by her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  I bet they are sitting down to an amazing feast.  I can hear the laughter and see the wine flowing.  I only hope someone else did the cooking because its nonna's turn to rest.  

Fly with the angels Nonna.  Thank you for all of your lessons.  We will miss you.  Ti Voglio bene sai sai.
