Jean Swanney Stewart

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday January 7th 2025 at the age of 101. Jean was the beloved wife of the late William Stewart, and loving mother of Joan (Don) Marsh, and Douglas, and the late Joyce, who was a twin to Joan. Cherished grandmother of Heather Marsh and Allison James. Treasured great-grandmother of Sean and Kyle, and Ryan. Jean will be also missed by many cousins and extended family members overseas in Scotland. Jean worked as a nurse in multiple different units at the Brantford General Hospital, assisting in surgeries, and the recovery unit, working in obstetrics and helping to bring many babies into the world. Spending 23 years as a nurse, Jean worked 12 years on night shifts, spent her time raising a family while fully committed to her career. Jean was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Brantford, attending for more than 40 years. She was an active member of the choir, where she sang with her friends proudly for services for many years. Jean loved to be in the kitchen, and was an avid baker, buttertarts and pumpkin muffins being among her most popular dishes. Friends are invited to join with the family for visitation on Thursday January 23rd, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Thorpe Bros. Funeral Home, 96 West Street, Brantford. A celebration of Jean’s life will take place in the chapel following visitation. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Jean made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
