Jochen Alvin Max Zieschang

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jochen Alvin Max Zieschang on June 10, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on March 22, 1935, in Bautzen, Germany and was born to Frieda Gnuss and Herbert Zieschang. August 11, 1956 he married his loving wife, Barbara Kliem in Bremen, Germany. They immigrated to Canada in 1956 and settled in Toronto.

Jochen and Barbara raised a family of four children in Pickering and then moved to St. Catharines in 1972 following his career. Jochen worked as a millwright for the local union and then found employment with General Motors Canada and retired from GM in 1996.

Jochen leaves behind to remember him, his wife Barbara of 69 years and 10 months, his Children: Jochen Zieschang (Claudette), Christine Huff (Gregory), Janette Vos (Gary), Markus Zieschang (Wende). Jochen was Opa to 10 Grandchildren: Jochen Jr (Mei Lu) Alisha (Stuart) , Warren, Rebecca (Carlo), Richard (Danny), Ethan (Kassie), Emily (Derek), Kirsten (Lucas), Kurtis (Brie), and Cole. Jochen was Ur Opa to 10 Great Grandchildren: Hannah, Alaina, Olivia, Antonio, Aveah, Stefano, Elora, Kayden, Kinsley, and Penelope. He is survived by his Sister Inge Lohndorf and Brother Klaus Zieschang and many nieces and nephews.

These children will be showered with stories of their Opa and Ur Opa - his memory shall never fade.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff and care team at Seasons Retirement Home - Brantford for the many years of kindness and care. Meaghan, Christina, and Brianne stood out for their compassion. Henry with the palliative care team eased Dad's passing.

A Funeral service will be held at Thorpes Brothers Funeral Home and Chapel (96 West St, Brantford, ON N3T 3E7) on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at 11AM. Visiting will begin an hour prior, at 10AM.
