Formerly of Brantford, Dunnville and Guelph, after a long and courageous journey with Alzheimers, Mom passed away peacefully at Edgewater Gardens in Dunnville on Sunday, May 2, 2021 with family by her side.

Josephine Phillips, in her 100th year or 39th in Mom’s years, was predeceased by her loving husband, Bernard (2002). She will be greatly missed by all of her children, Joanne Barless (Robert) of Niagara Falls, Carol Schmidt (John) of Dunnville, Linda Harrison (Ken Lilley) of London, Nancy Phillips (Joe Barth) of Guelph, Kathleen Quinlan (John) of Oakville, Bernard Phillips (Pamela) of Whitehorse, YT, Michael Phillips (Penny Vair) of Leith, Dianne Jentsch (Peter) of Tampa, FL, and Paul Phillips (Laura) of Guelph. Josephine is fondly remembered by her brother Peter Luciani (Marie) of Tillsonburg, 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Kathleen Luciani, sisters Pauline and Bernice, brothers Leo, Bill and Tom, and four grandsons Brian, Peter, Sean and Brent. Mom’s life revolved around her family. Family gatherings at holiday time and all special occasions brought our mother great joy and were usually followed with hours of card playing, laughter and of course, one of Joey’s delicious meals. Everyone loved Joey’s haystacks and heavenly pie. One of her passions was bingo. Whether it be with family or neighbourhood friends, Mom’s bingo dabbers were always at the ready when the call was made. Mom was also a longtime member of the Holy Rosary Parish in Guelph. She will always be remembered for her optimism, compassion and kindness toward others. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private family Graveside Service will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Brantford, on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2pm, which will be livestreamed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family. Memories and condolences may be shared and the link for livestream can be found below.

It is with great sadness that we read today of Aunt Jo’s passing. All remembrances of her include laughter, card games & eating. Aunt Jo always had a smile on her face & a giggle that was contagious. A special memory of mine was going to a church Bingo with Aunt Jo & Aunt Bea in Chatham when I was quite young. My introduction to Bingo. Their rule was if any of us won, we share the winnings. Who would have thought I’d win the $50 jackpot! It was so exciting & I reluctantly shared my prize! We laughed so hard that night. Our heartfelt condolences & hugs to our cousins & their families.

It is with great sadness to hear that Aunt Jo passed away. I wish I could return to the times when the entire family would get together and party....as much as aunt jo and uncle Bernie did. I remember her infectious laugh with Aunt Bea...and of course the macaroons and playing with the Johnny West figures in the basement when visiting. As a kid...the "forever drive" to Guelph was long forgotten visiting and watching hockey games on TV and of course playing cards. We should all try to make a point to get together in the future and have a drink or three for her when we can. I am sending the biggest hugs and kisses to you all! Uncle Bernie won't have to wait any longer for her...as I am sure they are both dancing together in heaven right now.

Sending huge hugs and kisses to all of my beautiful cousins! Your Mom was such an amazing lady! I have the very best memories of either going to Guelph or hearing that Uncle Bernie, Aunt Jo and the kids were coming to Tillsonburg... that meant tons of laughter, love, food, cards and definitely late late nights! I love all of you guys and feel so thankful that we are all so super blessed with such an awesome family! Heaven just received another angel!!! Peace, prayers and love to you all ❤️❌⭕️❌⭕️

Sorry to hear that Aunt Josephine has passed away from us but I am certain she will be well received in heaven.
Always the life of the party, always looking for a card game, always had time for us young ones. Will always remember our burning of the mortgage party with Aunt Jo leading the parade clanging the pots and pans. She and Uncle Bernie have left quite a legacy. Hoping to see you all sometime soon. God bless everyone.
