May 9, 1925 – March 2, 2016
Showing determination and grace, Phyllis Charlotte Hargadon, entered eternal rest accompanied by prayers from her family. In her 91st year she was pre-deceased by her parents James Eugene and Ethel Lucy (Poile), by her sisters Sybil (Quilty) and Terese (O'Neail), brother William and niece Peggy. She is survived by her brother John Hargadon, sister Mary Jo (Quilty), nieces and nephews Kathie, Jamie, Gene, Tari, Michael, Patti, Tom, Tim, John, Mary Pat, Peter, Owen, and Michael, and many great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Phyllis was an incomparable woman who led an adventure filled life. Kind and honest, she could “tell it like it is” while showing a tender heart at the right time. Born in Fort William she arrived in Brantford (by ship and train), aged two, stricken with polio. Despite the prognosis of her doctors she endured and went on to a healthy career in the business world, mostly at Hussmann Refrigeration. Always willing to take on challenges she enjoyed music, art, card games, curling, golf, and visited more than eighty countries on solo journeys or with friends and family. She was a seasoned member of Brantford Golf and Country Club, Probis, and St. Pius X congregation where she sang in the Sunday choir. Family was most essential to Phyllis' as she always attended ceremonies for Catholic sacraments, recitals, graduations, and weddings, no matter how far she had to travel. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or another charity that supports the poor.
Thank you to the nurses, especially Wendy, and Dr. Ajiya for the care and compassion shown to Phyllis during her short stay in CCU at BGH.
