He was a loving son of the late Margaret and George Gayton, loving and most loved husband (60 years) of Eileen Gayton (Hodgson), loved Father of Scott Gayton (Laurie Neate), Stephen Gayton (Jossel Valdenebro) and loved Grampa of Ryan, Holly,Trevor, Emma, Jessica Gayton and Jessel Valdenabro. He is survived by his sisters, Lee (Peter) of Australia, Margaret Eccles and Susan Gayton of Winnipeg plus multiple nieces and nephews.
Bob was employed as an engineer with Ontario Hydro (OPG) upon graduating, until his early retirement. As a mentor to engineers new to OPG, he was well thought of. He liked to say he was retired as long as he worked. Retirement to Bob meant continuing to work at what you wanted to do when you wanted to do it!
A major achievement in our early years was building our home in rural Whitchurch-Stouffville which we couldn’t have done without his father’s major contribution of expertise, time and energy.
In his spare time he volunteered with Scouts Canada, first on Group Council, then as a Troop Scouter, Venturer Advisor, Trainer, District Commissioner and Canoe Trip Leader. Many canoes were crafted by a keen group of volunteers at our rural Stouffville home.
Introducing many youth, various people and multiple extended family members to the skills, wonders and fun of canoe tripping, became his goal. He was most sad when he could no longer canoe trip!
Another important pastime was his support of and working for candidates vying for election to various positions be it the local, provincial or federal level.
Bob, you are so missed by so many, but no one misses you more than me. Until we’re together again, you’re in my heart.
