Susan is survived by her loving husband Darryl of 39 years, her sons Jesse and Derek, daughter-in-law’s, Kelly and Tanya, her beautiful grandchildren Quinn, Devon & Max and her loyal canine Riley.
Dearest sister to Donna (Andy), Debbie (Gerry), Sandy, Kim, and brother Allen (Lori). She was predeceased by her mother Eleanor, grandparents Maggie and Stephen and her Uncle Jack. Suzy was a sister-in-law to Lorne (Susan), Denise (Mike), Cindy, Paula (Rich) and Kevin (Shari). She was a loving and supportive aunt to many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Sue was a kindred spirit to a long list of friends who loved each other like family. They spent time golfing, vacationing, hosting dinner parties, and simply supporting and enjoying each other’s company.
Our Sue was kind, generous and authentic to everyone she met, that was her superpower. She was genuinely interested in everyone’s life story. And as the nieces and nephews would say, she would always ask the best questions.
Sue was an entrepreneur, owning and operating her very successful business, Suzy Shades, for over 38 years. She loved her work, and she treated her customers like family, providing the highest standard of service. She was professional, detailed and precise in her work, always adopting a hands-on approach.
Sue hosted the best labour day parties that became a yearly tradition for family and friends, with the guest list growing each year as newfound friends and new generations of loved ones were added. True to Sue’s competitive nature, a tournament always took place, from golf to volleyball and most recently the MacDonald Annual Cornhole Championship. A full day of swimming, storytelling, laughter and Sue’s classic city chicken, perogies and her famous cabbage rolls was always on the menu. A perfect end to summer.
Sue was highly active throughout her entire life. From childhood baseball to racquetball champion, squash champion, biking enthusiast, golfer, and most recently pickleball. She was a talented team player, whose drive and athleticism were passed down to both her sons.
Sue hosted large holiday family dinners throughout the years. The meals were always scrumptious and there was always room at the table for more guests. Her Caesar salad was legendary throughout the land, if she didn’t leave that darn recipe, there’s going to be a lot of broken hearts.
She offered great advice to all who sought it. She was resourceful, honest and kind. These traits weaved through everything she did. We loved her so.
Her travels with Darryl, her family and friends took her to Italy, Greece, the Caribbean and her favourite destination, Mexico, back home she loved the summer visits to Jack’s Lake with family and spending time visiting her friends’ cottages.
There is so much more that should be said about Sue, but in the end, what she did was make our world brighter by being in it. Throughout her life, Sue carried with her a sense of warmth, compassion and unwavering strength. She had an innate ability to make us all feel seen, heard and loved.
Sue was an extraordinary woman whose legacy will live on in the kindness and love that she spread to all who were fortunate enough to have crossed her path. We will miss her deeply.
The Family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Sue’s dearest childhood friend April Franklin, who remained Sue’s loyal confidante throughout her life, travelling back and forth from California to help Sue and her family through the most difficult days of their lives.
And to all of Sue and Darryl’s loving friends who have been so kind and attentive, demonstrating their unconditional love for Sue in the most gentle and compassionate way. We thank you.
