Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing away on April 22, 2021 of Alma Ragny (Aksdal) Bockelie, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie, and great auntie. But we're joyful, and thankful too, that we had her on this earth with us for so many good and wonderful years.
Alma Bockelie was born on October 13, 1927 to Thora and Sten Aksdal in Bremerton, WA. She had fond childhood memories of summers out at Holly with her family. She graduated from Bremerton High School class of 1945, and in 1946-47 attended Washington State College. She married Henrik William Bockelie in 1953 and remained Henrik's beloved wife until his passing in 2014. She visited, traveled in, and enjoyed extended stays in Norway, and she loved to keep in touch with her family there. As the bookkeeper for Bockelie Builders Inc., she set a proud example as a working mother. And she was a lifelong member of Sons of Norway Oslo Lodge #35, and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
She took an active interest in local history, and was concerned with issues of social racial and economic justice, world peace, and just being nice. She was a life-long student of the bible, took great care in nourishing and caring for her loved ones, and stayed in touch with friends and family with frequent phone calls and lovingly written letters.
Preceded in death by her husband, niece Wanda Temple, brother Arthur Aksdal, and her mother and father, she is survived by daughters Ingrid Ness and Stene (& Roly) Dickson, son Hap Bockelie (& Monica Moore), grandchildren Marit, Rebecca, Sol, Luci, Arlene, Carlos, Consuelo, and Aaron; Jesse and Lukas; Jakob and Eli, numerous great grandchildren, nephews & nieces, grandnieces & grandnephews.
In keeping with safety protocols at this time, immediate family will gather in remembrance at an open air memorial service in Bremerton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a cause Alma and Henrik supported: the International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, 428-A8 Farnham Street- Marshall, WI 53559, Phone (715) 209-4453), Web https://www.whoisleonardpeltier.info/#.
