Art McCarty was a proud native Bremertonian, a kind and respectful man, and a devoted educator. He treasured the memories of classmates at Bremerton High School, including his coaches and teammates from the 1941 State Basketball Championship team.
Art headed to the University of Washington, pledged Theta Chi Fraternity and turned out for the freshman basketball team. Upon his father’s recommendation, he joined ROTC and began his WWII service in the Army Signal Corps. Art returned to UW where he received a BA and later a Master’s in Education. Art’s life as a teacher, coach and administrator began in Camas with his close friend, Les Eathorne and continued at East High School and Olympic College.
In 1947 he married Teddy Green who had invited him to her Chi Omega Sorority Valentine’s Day Dance. They traveled the world, lived for football season and continued to dance together until her passing in 2009. Teddy and Art were both only children and considered their lifelong friends as family. Their greatest pride and joy was their two daughters, Ann and Susan and their families.
Art always looked on the bright side and enjoyed making new friends, including his dedicated caregivers and neighbors at Stafford Suites in Port Orchard.
Art considered it a great privilege to serve nine years on the Olympic College Foundation Board where Memorial gifts can be made to Olympic College Foundation 1600 Chester Ave CSC530 Bremerton, WA 98337
