His parents were Laura and Arthur Sperber of Tillamook, Oregon. He graduated from Tillamook High School, and Western Oregon University, with a Masters Degree from the University of Oregon. He played varsity basketball for Western Oregon.
Arthur was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was wounded in action.
He and his wife, Carol Wall Sperber, were married for 70 years. Arthur was a teacher and coach in Garibaldi and Cresswell, Oregon, and a teacher and principal in Bremerton elementary schools until his retirement.
Arthur's Children are Mary Anderson (Gaaren) of Tacoma, Ann Almond (Jim) of Poulsbo, and Robert Sperber of Everett. He had seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Arthur was a horseshoe pitcher of national standing who was inducted into the Washington State Horseshoe Pitchers' Hall of Fame, as well as the Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame. He loved family activities, boating, crabbing, camping, traveling, and his favorite - wood cutting.
Arthur will be remembered by family, friends, and colleagues for being straight-forward and honest, with a caring and thoughtful manner - a fine man to all who knew him.
The family thanks Centerwell and Kaiser Hospice nurses for their kind and considerate professional care.
A memorial gathering of friends and family will be held on May 11, 2024 at the Sperber home. He will be honored at the Kitsap Open horseshoe tournament in Port Orchard on April 27, 2024 with his many horseshoe friends sharing memories.
