Jerry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Yu-Feng (Chuang), his children, Jason (Darcy), Joel, Josh, Jackie (Ben), and Marci, and his grandchildren Audrey, Cooper, Lauren, and Ireland.
Jerry served 22 years active duty in the United States Navy and worked as a civil servant for 20 years, receiving Civilian of the Year in 1994. He served aboard the USS Lexington and the USS Whipple, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Jerry received multiple awards and medals during his time in the military including: Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Medal, and Good Conduct Awards, amongst others.
Being from the small town of Northport, WA, he joined the United States Navy at the age of 18. He was stationed in Taipei, Taiwan for four and a half years where he met his wife and moved back to the US. They had four children together and eventually retired in Bremerton, WA. Still Jerry often visited his hometown to visit family and friends.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed traveling the world, visiting over 55 countries, playing cribbage, reading, collecting coins, and spending time with his family. He was very active in all his children’s sports especially baseball and softball. He was their biggest supporter and was always seen keeping score and statistics in the dugout both as a parent and as a coach. He never missed a game or practice. He is known by the people who knew him best as a generous, witty, and patient man with a passion for his family, politics, and sports. He is remembered by his family as a loving father who was always there for them and would do anything for them at a drop of a dime. His children have many fond memories of him including waking up Saturday mornings to the smell of his signature dish, potatoes and eggs. Jerry was very loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on June 28, 2019 at 10:30am, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent WA 98042. All are welcome to attend the funeral services as well as his Celebration of Life that will be held at The Elks Club following the service at 3pm, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton WA.
