Joe Lewis, the oldest son of Walter Lewis and Lucille Jennings Lewis, was born September 3, 1937 in Jonesville, Louisiana. Joe moved to Bremerton, Washington with his family in 1952. He attended welding school and later graduated with a degree in welding. He then went to work at Lockheed Shipyard where he commuted back and forth to work for twenty years. From Lockheed, Joe went to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. He married his sweetheart, Claudia August 9, 1958 until the day Joe began a new eternal life with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ on March 29, 2014. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in his later life where he attended Mount Zion Baptist Church and Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church in Bremerton.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, dominoes and spades. He thought he could always win. He could cut a rug, too. He loved to dance. He was a jokester who always had a big heart, soft voice and plenty of positive attitude. Along with that wide grin that was always on his face, he encouraged all those with whom he came into contact. His friends admired him and adhered to his wise counsel that helped some to walk the straight and narrow.
Joe Lewis leaves behind his faithful and caring wife, Claudia; 8 sisters, Rosemary Addams, Vernice Hill, Mary Stringfellow, Patricia Thomas, Velma Wilson, Beverly and Valeria Lewis and Carolyn Ferrell; 6 brothers, Eddie, Kenneth, Paul, Marvin and Larry Lewis and Jimmy White; 7 children, Tony, Teresa, Troy, Tim, Tracy, Ted and Todd Lewis; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grand children and a grand host of relatives and friends.
Arrangements under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Bremerton, WA.
