Calvin Steadmon was born on November 5, 1953. He was the second of two sons born to Curtis and Inez Steadmon. Both of his parents worked outside the home; his father with the federal government and his mother as a healthcare professional.
Calvin was a child of modest upbringing whose parents owned a home in the Rosedale section of Northeast Washington, DC. A neat, well-manicured community in which neighbors knew and cared for one another.
Calvin was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System attending both Brown Junior High and Spingarn Senior High. In fact, it was during these years of adolescence that he met Toni Patterson; a girl whom he most aptly described as the love of his life.
A man of few words and forever forward thinking, Calvin had watched things come to pass that he had conceptualized decades before. From greenspaces to geothermal even onto DC bike share program.
Calvin was an HVAC mechanic by profession. He loved good jazz music and fancied himself as quite the man about the billiards table. He loved racquetball, handball and tennis. He loved discussing at length anything along the political sphere; be it Nationally or internationally.
Calvin was separated from friends and family for a number of years and the reunification was bittersweet to say the least. He lost both his parents as well as his brother in a period of a few short years. Yet in sheer Shakespearean fashion that girl he met back in the day " Toni Patterson" some twenty plus years later; she became his wife.
The best love stories sometimes end in tragedy as even she preceding him in death.
In our times together especially as he became more and more ill: we would talk, reflect and lament. Ultimately breaking out in the lyrics of Whoodini's "One Love".
Calvin, for those who knew you and loved you, you will be truly missed.
