Doretha Elizabeth Fisher “Doe” was born on April 12, 1945, to the late David Wrice Jr. and Jonnie Mae Dyson, although she was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina by her extended family. She married Leroy Fisher Jr. in 1967 and had a daughter Dawn Elizabeth McCormick “Kitty”.
“Doe” attended A&T University where she majored in physical education but had a love for “numbers” and went on to become a successful accountant for the Department of Treasury for more than 30 years. She played softball alongside her husband but also enjoyed her quite time reading her extensive book collection.
In her retirement, “Doe” enjoyed trips to the library and became an even more voracious consumer of books. She spent a lot of time with her eldest grandchild Teja Fisher where she worked at her elementary school as a substitute teacher.
She and Leroy spent the remainder of their lives together, with Leroy preceding her in death only 8 months before; they were married almost 55 years.
Doretha Elizabeth Fisher “Doe”, age 76, transitioned on December 24, 2021, after a battle with a long-term illness in Washington DC. Preceding her in death was her sister Anita Dyson and brothers Niven Armstrong and Toby Dyson.
She is survived by her one child Dawn Elizabeth McCormick “Kitty” (Antoine); Sisters, Connie Dyson, Debra Dyson, Evelyn Scott, Sharon Haskins, Jacquelyn Thomas-Bey and Kenyetta Carrillo; one Brother, Duane Dyson; Grandchildren, Teja Fisher, Maximus McCormick, Maddox McCormick and Maverick McCormick.
