

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John W. Thomas; her son, Derek V. Hampton, Sr. (Mary); and all nine of her siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Bonita Sampson (Elliott), Marshall Hampton, Sr. (Jesa), Marsha Roberts, and Marchelle Huggins; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A lifelong Washingtonian, Mrs. Thomas was born, raised, and educated in the District. She was a proud graduate of the distinguished Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School and Howard University.
Her legacy of service was deeply rooted in her faith and community. A devoted member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church since 1951, she also held membership in numerous civic and charitable organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the DC Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc., the NAACP, and the National Urban League.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, 3505 16th Street NW, Washington, DC 20010. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Final tributes by the DC Continental Societies, Inc. and the Washington DC Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. (Please note: No entry will be permitted during this time).
The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD.
A repast will be held at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church immediately following the interment.
