Papa Enoch Eniola Monisoye Faniyi was born at Modakeke-Araromi in the old western region of Nigeria (now Oshun State). He went to school and completed his standard 6th grade; he was unable to continue his education due to the death of his father at a young age. Later in his life he learned how to buy and sell medical equipment, he went to Ode Omu training school for medicine aid. At the same time, he also started buying and selling medical equipment throughout the western region of Nigeria. He was trained at Ode Omu at Oshun state as a hospital attendant. He later established his own health care clinic at Gbongan, he named it Alaanu Clinic (Mercy Clinic). Later he expanded to Iseyin in Oyo state and called it Ireti-Ayo Clinic (Hoping for Goodness). He also established a poultry farm in Iseyin.
While he lived in Iseyin, he started building a house at Gbongan. He completed it successfully and his house was one of the best houses in Gbongan at that time in the 1960s. He migrated to London, then to American in 1971 to study medicine. He attended UDC University at that time. Papa Faniyi was a strong believer in Christ, he devoted all his life to his faith. He was a generous man, he helped a lot of his cousin’s children to pay for their fees, he never turned away anyone who came to him for help. That’s why people called him Baba Alaanu (Merciful Papa).
Papa Faniyi spent his life loving to pray. He passed this tradition down to his children. He was also a great evangelist; while he was distributing Our Daily Bread pamphlets, he was violently robbed at a DC metro station and almost passed away in 2009. Though bedridden in the hospital for an extended period, he survived the accident and was still a vibrant walker until he went home to meet with the Lord on November 23, 2022.
He is survived by 11 children, Funke Fadoju, Yomi Faniyi, Shade Ariori, Fisayo Faniyi, Remi Osilesi, Joy Bukola Faniyi, James (Muyiwa) Eniola, Gloria (Yemisi) Eniola, Femi, Monisoye Faniyi, Victor Faniyi, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace.
