

Frank Murray Jr. was born in Coffeeville, MS, to the late Frank Murray Sr. and Joe Willie Neal-Murray. After moving to Detroit as a teenager and graduating from the Detroit Public School system, Frank chose a path of high honor, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps.
His military career spanned 27 years, during which he bravely served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He eventually rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from active duty, he continued his commitment to public service through roles at the Smithsonian Institution and the Navy Annex.
Family and Faith
While stationed at Henderson Hall in Arlington, VA, Frank met the love of his life, Bette Ann, affectionately known to him as "Honey". They were wed on August 27, 1976, blending a beautiful family that included Bette's daughters Bettina (Tina) and Nicole, and later their son, Daniel Wendell.
Frank’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. As a devoted member of Florida Avenue Baptist Church, he served as a Trustee and President of the Usher Board. He was also a dedicated member of the Prince Hall Masons in Washington, D.C., joining the fraternity in 1982.
Passions and Legacy
Known for his vibrant spirit, "Gunny" was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan who never wavered in his loyalty. An avid bowler who traveled the country representing the Mecca Temple #10 bowling team. A devoted family man known for his strength and dedication.
Frank is survived by his loyal wife, Bette; his son, Daniel (Eboni); stepdaughters, Bettina (Tina) and Nicole; eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a vast community of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
