

Gloria Louise Vaughan Curry, daughter of Christopher C. Vaughan and Nettie Woods Vaughan of Nelson County Virginia, was born July 21, 1929, in Washington, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of five children after her father's death, the family moved to Newark, New Jersey where she received her early childhood education.
Upon graduation from Barringer High School she received a full scholarship to Montclair N.J. state teachers' college (now Montclair University), where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1950, she married Tuskegee Airman Lt. John Carol Curry and moved to Washington, DC, where she began her teaching career at the Browne Junior High School.
She continued her studies at New York University and received her Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counselling. She took time off from teaching to have two sons John Elliott and Kermit Christopher.
She resumed her teaching career in Prince Georges County, Maryland public schools where she received many outstanding awards, city of Bowie, including the Maryland governor's award and recognized as an outstanding teacher by Greater Washington Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages.
Gloria was very active in the episcopal diocese of Washington. serving on the vestry of Calvary Episcopal Church. As convenor Convocation Five, Secretary of the Episcopal Church women and delegate to two national conventions. She was honored to second the nomination of John T Walker, who was elected the first African American Bishop of Washington. She served on the board of the YWCA and was member of the friends of the Superior Court.
Gloria was a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and a Diamond soror legend of XI of Omega Chapter she was secretary of the DeltaKAS, a social club of Deltas and AKA's who did community work.
Her hobbies included stamp collecting, books and movies. music boxes, classical and jazz music and solving crossword puzzles.

She leaves to mourn: John E. Curry, Pam Curry, Kermit C. Curry, Phoebe Curry, Brittni Curry, Mark Curry, Edward Curry, Kayce Curry, Taunya Curry, Francis Catherine Marshall, Benjamin Marshall, and a host of other relatives and friends.
