

Janice Maria Henry entered into eternal peace on April 15, 2025. She was born to Neal and Rosetta Henry on January 20, 1947, in Lima, Ohio. Janice was the oldest sibling, having one sister, Antoinette Faye, and three brothers: Carlton, Reginald, and Brandon.
Janice received her education from the District of Columbia Public Schools, graduating from William McKinley Tech High School in 1965. She furthered her education at DC Teachers College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and later a Master’s degree. While in college, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and became a dedicated lifelong member. After graduation, Janice taught at several schools: Johnson Junior High School (1968-1974), Woodson Junior High School (1974-1979), Ballou High School (1979-1999), Anacostia High School (1999-2005), and Forestville Military Academy (2005-2007). At Ballou High School, she also served as a school counselor, a role she maintained throughout her teaching career. A lover of the arts, Janice held a part-time position at the John F. Kennedy Center. She retired from both teaching and the Kennedy Center in 2007.
From a young age, Janice was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Her steadfast faith and commitment to the church community were always a heartfelt part of her journey. Janice had a passion for fashion, evident in her stylish attire on every occasion. As a true fashionista, she coordinated her outfits from head to toe, always standing out in a crowd and leaving a lasting impression with her style.
Janice loved connecting with people and enjoyed activities such as dancing, attending parties, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. With a heart of gold, she was always willing to help anyone in need. Throughout her life, she made lifelong friends and often shared stories about her connections with people from her childhood neighborhood, her various jobs, and everyone she met along her journey.
Janice is survived by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette Faye and Raymond Broaden; her niece, Rhonda (Jason); and her nephew, Randy (Iesha). She also leaves behind her aunts, Sebrevia Davis and Ruth Crutchfield, and her cousins, Brenda Crutchfield and Janet Brown (Ray). Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Carlton, Reginald, and Brandon. She will be fondly remembered by her family, friends, and neighbors.
