John Curtis McGee was born on March 4, 1962 to the late Herbert and Susan McGee. He graduated from DC Public School in 1980 and was a current resident of District Heights, Maryland. He was known to many of his family and friends as Curtis.
Curtis was one of four children. In his high school years, he was an athlete competing as a wrestler. He also participated in Track and Field as a cross country runner through his first year of college at the University of District of Columbia.
Curtis started working at the age of 16 and never stopped. He started at Hardee’s fast-food chain working his way up to General Manager, then moved to retail with Rent-A-Center, and then onto Aarons where his journey ended.
Outside of work he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved attending family cookouts and always spoke of his skill on the grill. Curtis was one to bring his Tupperware to the cookouts and holiday dinners so he could enjoy leftovers at home. He was very humbled and reserved, and fun to be around, and always made us laugh. Curtis was also an avid sports fan of the Washington Football team for many years.
Curtis received Christ in 1996 and was truly blessed when the Lord called him home on March 31, 2021. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert McGee Jr, and sister, Loretta McGee. Curtis leaves to cherish his memory, his wonderful children Deron Curtis McGee, Victor Grant, and Nicola Grant; granddaughter, Jade Drain; two sisters, Patricia Key and Deloris Franklin; one brother, Warren McGee; one daughter-in-law, Jasmin Drain; his beloved friend Kellie Chambers; and 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 1 grandnephew, and a host of friends and family.
