

On Tuesday, December 23,2025 John Valentine “Johnny” Scott, 88, formally of Cottage City, MD and Calvert County, MD passed away peacefully in the care of Hospice of St. Mary’s at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center. He was the son of the late Thomas Weston Scott, Jr. and the late Agnes M. Scott.
Johnny is survived by 6 of his siblings, Elizabeth H. Lawrence, Edith M. Chapin, Thomas W. Scott III (wife, Nancy Scott), Nancy L. Pilkerton, Joan M. Volandt (husband, Mickey Volandt), Jean M. Scott and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. He was pre-deceased by 4 of his siblings, Margaret A. Whalon, Mary A. Bowling, Catherine A. Patterson, and George C. Scott.
Johnny was retired from the D.C. Fire Department, Engine Company 7. He served his Country in the US Naval Reserves. He was also a Life Member of the Cottage City Volunteer Fire Dept.
Johnny was committed to both paid and volunteer fire departments. He loved going to the yearly Firemen’s Convention in Ocean City.
He enjoyed photographing family gatherings and was always the one who brought a large variety of ice cream.
More recently Johnny enjoyed engaging in activities at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home. He was well known by all the staff, who on numerous occasions told us how much they enjoyed having him there. They put bird feeders outside his window and watching the birds, squirrels, and a turtle became a daily routine for him.
Johnny was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Interment will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
