

Lottie Bryant Stevens was born in Warsaw, VA to Lavinia Bryant and Webster Cox on April 6, 1933. She attended school in Havelock, VA. She also lived in Lottsburg, VA with her mother and stepfather, James Thompson.
She moved to Washington, DC with her family at the age of 11. She had a brother Gene Allen Bryant who died as a toddler. She had other siblings who are all deceased--Delmus (Keyser) Lee Bryant; Lois Ann (Mickey) Thompson, and James Robert (Duke) Thompson. She later married Rudolph Stevens and they had one daughter, Sandra Y. Stevens.
Lottie worked various jobs to include general housekeeping, the National Child Research Center in DC as a cook; PLAN Learning Center as a Vista Volunteer, where she also attended classes. And, Lottie worked as a Food Service Worker at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she retired in 1975.
Her last employment was with The Saints Missionary Foundation where she was the Night Manager and Cook. Lottie prepared meals for 14-16 individuals with intellectual disabilities. In addition to preparing meals, Lottie monitored medications, transported clients to medical appointments, and supervised personal hygiene. She was employed with The Saints Missionary Foundation from September 1992 until August 1997.
Lottie was a member of Peace Baptist Church for many years and served on the clothing giveaway committee as well as in the food pantry which distributed free food to the community. On her own, she and another member of the church served individuals who were recuperating at home by shopping for groceries, cooking meals, and house cleaning until the individual was able to care for themselves.
Lottie leaves to cherish her daughter, Sandra Y. Johnson; her granddaughter, Andria L. Barbee (Carl); a grandson, Vandell J. Johnson (deceased); a great-granddaughter, Carlika L. Barbee; and a great-grandson, D’Vone Jackson. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lottie enjoyed listening to music, reading, and going on day trips.
